About the Chance

Potlotek First Nation is seeking a qualified and committed Prevention Director to provide strategic leadership, development, and oversight of prevention-focused programs and services that support children, youth, and families within the community. The successful candidate will help strengthen early intervention, family wellness, and community-based initiatives that are culturally grounded, trauma-informed, and responsive to community needs.

Position Summary The Prevention Director is responsible for the strategic leadership, development, and oversight of prevention-focused programs and services that support children, youth, and families within Potlotek First Nation.

This role focuses on early intervention, family strengthening, and community-based wellness initiatives that are culturally grounded and trauma-informed. The Director ensures programs align with Potlotek priorities, funding requirements, and community needs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Program Leadership and Development

- Provide overall leadership and management of prevention and family wellness programs.
- Develop and implement strategic plans, program goals, and service priorities.
- Oversee the design, delivery, and evaluation of prevention programs and services.
- Ensure services are culturally grounded, trauma-informed, and community-driven.
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and program standards.
- Ensure compliance with funding agreements, legislation, and reporting requirements.

Staff, Community, and Partnership Engagement

- Supervise and support staff, including recruitment, onboarding, and performance management.




- Engage with community members, families, Elders, and youth to assess needs.
- Build partnerships with internal departments and external service providers.
- Support collaboration across health, education, and social services sectors.

Financial, Reporting, and Strategic Responsibilities

- Oversee program budgets and ensure responsible financial management.
- Prepare reports, funding proposals, and program documentation.
- Participate in strategic planning and community initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the COO.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education

- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Indigenous Studies, Community Development, or a related field.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

- Master's degree is considered an asset.

Experience and Skills

- Experience in program leadership, prevention services, or community-based programming.
- Experience supervising staff and managing teams.
- Strong understanding of social determinants of health.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed and culturally grounded practices.
- Experience with budgeting, reporting, and program development.
- Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and team management skills.




- Strategic planning and decision-making ability.
- Financial oversight and accountability.
- Conflict resolution and relationship management skills.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining accountability to senior leadership.

- Valid driver's license.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
- Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Child Abuse Registry Check.
- Ability to work in office and community environments and travel for meetings, programs, and partnerships.
- Some evening and weekend work may be required.
- Ability to work professionally in high-demand and complex social environments.
