Our ferry staff help further connect and expand Nova Scotia’s transportation network while ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our provincial ferries. Our ferries operate 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. If you want an exciting and challenging career with a daily view of our beautiful Atlantic waters, then we have the perfect opportunity just for you.About Our OpportunityAs a Marine Engineer, you will join an engaged and team-oriented team. Hours of work include 12‑hour shifts and may require working various alternating hours per week to maintain the ferry schedule.Primary AccountabilitiesOperate the main engines of the ferry, ensuring that all auxiliaries, pumps, ventilating fans, steering motors and furnaces function safely and efficiently.Inspect, repair, and maintain the mechanical and electrical equipment on the ferry.Direct traffic on the ferry; arrange vehicles on thedeck and keep the boat clean at all times.Qualifications And ExperienceGrade 12 education and at least 3 years of mechanical experience.A small vessel machinery operator’s license (SVMO) is an asset.Valid Seafarer’s Certificate of Medical Examination, Marine Emergency Duty Certificate,



and Marine First Aid.Outstanding teamwork and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently with minimum supervision, and exercise independent judgement and initiative.Working ConditionsThe role requires the ability to lift 50 pounds and to stand, shovel, walk, climb, and sit for extended periods.
