In this role, you are eligible to participate in a adaptable work program that allows you to work remotely for up to three days a week. A minimum of two days must be in the office. At certain times, you may be required to work in the office more than 2 days per week based on operational requirements.In collaboration with schools and departments, this position is responsible for planning, organizing, designing, implementation and maintenance of enterprise Wide Area Network (WAN), data networking system. Is responsible for provision of technical support services for Local Area Networks (LAN) and their secure, accessible and reliable connectivity to the Wide Area Network. Advises and consults with department management and staff to ensure the effective integration of networking solutions with other related technology functions provided by the department. May be required to lead special departmental and interdepartmental high technology projects.What will you do?For data network technologies, collaborates with school administration, other technology stakeholders and team members to determine specific information requirements for resolving and implementing technical solutions. Coordinates networking installations, establishes schedules and time lines for tasks and plans team implementations. Negotiates with vendors regarding planning,
implementation and maintenance activities.In coordination with other Client Support services provided by the department ensures that Instructional and Administrative departments are provided with technical support, implementation training and guidelines for data network systems.Responsible for the supervision and training of data network staff engaged in the delivery of data networking services to schools and administrative departments. Monitors quality of work performed, conducts performance evaluations, hiring, promotion and disciplinary measures.Responsible for monitoring of WAN network performance and security activities, identifies problems and implements appropriate corrective action, ensures the integrity and reliability of the data networks and components.Responsible for administration of data transmission lines and accounting for all data communication lines, maintenance agreements and vendor contracts.Documents and initiates data communication policies and procedures as necessary for ensuring organization security policies and procedures are followed.Assists department management in the planning and budgeting of the organization's data communication network and develops administrative controls.Provides direction, goals,
assistance and quality control guidelines to subordinates and other technical staff involved in technical implementation of systems interfacing and connecting to WAN and LAN networks.Responsible for design, testing and evaluation of network systems and technologies applicable for organizational requirements.Maintains a current knowledge of developments in data communications technology, industry trends and concepts.Responsible for preparation and delivery of workshops and in-service training to technical staff and users of data communication systems as required. Regular in-service training to End user support staff is an ongoing requirement.Performs other related responsibilities as assigned.Education and ExperienceUniversity degree with specialization in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or Computer Science; or a two year post-secondary degree or diploma with two years network planning and management study in the field of data communications or electronics.Five years progressive direct experience related to enterprise network planning and design is a minimum requirement.An equivalent combination of directly related post-secondary education and directly related experience may be considered.Demonstrated Skills and CompetenciesDemonstrated expertise in oral and written communications and interpersonal skills.Supervisory experience and good organizational skills are also a prerequisite.Personal suitability.Conditions of EmploymentPolice Information Clearance:Applicants new to the Calgary Board of Education WHO ARE OFFERED EMPLOYMENT must complete and pass a police information clearance before employment is confirmed.Be Part of Our SuccessA career with the CBE offers incredible opportunities, rewards and supports.#J-18808-Ljbffr
