As part of the continued expansion of our Skilled Trades Training Division, we are developing a new Plumbing Pre-Apprenticeship Program at our upcoming training facility.

We are seeking an experienced Licensed Plumber (306A) to join our team as Program Advisor & Lead Instructor and support the development, approval, launch, and delivery of the program. This individual will play a key role in the successful launch and ongoing delivery of the program by providing academic and industry expertise, advising on the development of our practical training facility, reviewing and enhancing curriculum, and delivering high-quality instruction to students.

This is a newly created position at Business and Technical Training College, established to support the strategic development and expansion of the College's Skilled Trades Training Division.

Position Overview The Program Advisor & Lead Instructor will work closely with the College's academic and leadership team to develop and review the Plumbing Pre-Apprenticeship curriculum, practical labs, assessments, instructional materials, and training requirements.

The successful candidate will review the program curriculum, instructional materials, lesson plans, and assessment tools, providing recommendations to ensure the content reflects current industry practices, Ontario Building Code requirements, evolving construction technologies, and employer expectations. The successful candidate will play an integral role in maintaining the quality and relevance of the program through continuous curriculum review and improvement.

In addition to academic responsibilities, the successful candidate will also provide technical guidance on the design and setup of the plumbing training shop, including tools, equipment, materials, workstations, and safety requirements, and will support the College through the applicable approval process.

Following the program launch, the successful candidate will serve as the Lead Instructor, delivering both classroom and practical instruction while mentoring students and contributing to the continued growth and success of the program.

Key Responsibilities

Program Development & Curriculum

- Develop the curriculum for the Plumbing Pre-Apprenticeship Program.
- Develop course outlines, learning outcomes, lesson plans, student manuals and practical assessment tools.
- Develop structured hands-on plumbing labs, practical exercises, and shop projects.
- Ensure curriculum reflects current Ontario plumbing practices, applicable codes and regulations, workplace safety standards, and employer expectations.
- Review applicable Skilled Trades Ontario apprenticeship training standards and incorporate appropriate foundational competencies into the program.
- Develop competency-based practical assessments and evaluation rubrics.
- Determine the appropriate balance between theoretical instruction and practical hands-on training.
- Identify opportunities to incorporate new plumbing technologies, tools, systems, materials, and industry practices into the program.
- for the applicable Ministry program approval process.




- Work collaboratively with the College's academic and leadership team throughout the program approval and implementation process.

Plumbing Training Shop Planning & Development

- Advise on the design, layout, and functionality of the College's practical plumbing training facility.
- Recommend plumbing training stations and practical work areas that simulate real-world working environments.
- Develop comprehensive lists of required tools, equipment, fixtures, piping materials, fittings, valves, consumables, and instructional aids.
- Provide recommendations regarding drainage, waste and vent systems, water distribution systems, plumbing fixtures, piping systems, and other applicable training installations.
- Advise on workshop organization, storage, safety equipment, material handling, and practical training requirements.
- Support the College in evaluating equipment and material requirements for procurement.
- Collaborate with the College's leadership team to ensure the training facility supports effective and safe practical learning.

Instruction & Student Success Following the successful launch of the program, responsibilities would include:

- Deliver engaging classroom and hands-on practical plumbing instruction.
- Facilitate demonstrations, workshops, and practical shop activities.
- Teach students the safe and proper use of plumbing tools, equipment, and materials.
- Provide academic guidance, mentorship, and support to students.
- Reinforce qualified workplace expectations, safe work practices, and industry standards.
- Assist students in understanding apprenticeship pathways and expectations within Ontario's plumbing industry.

Industry Collaboration

- Keep the program aligned with current Ontario plumbing practices, apprenticeship expectations, industry developments, and labour market needs.
- Provide ongoing recommendations regarding curriculum and practical training improvements.
- Identify changes in tools, technologies, materials, codes, and work practices that should be incorporated into the program.

Qualifications

- Valid Ontario Plumber Certificate of Qualification – 306A is required.
- Minimum five (5) years of professional experience working as a Licensed Plumber after obtaining the 306A Certificate of Qualification is required.
- Minimum 5+ experience teaching or training apprentices, college students, or adult learners is required.
- Evidence of curriculum development experience, including the development or review of course content, instructional materials, practical training activities, or assessments, is required.
- Solid knowledge of residential and/or commercial plumbing systems and installation practices.
- Strong knowledge of applicable Ontario plumbing codes, regulations, and workplace safety requirements.
- Demonstrated experience with drainage, waste and vent systems, water distribution systems, fixtures, valves, fittings, and common plumbing piping systems.
- Robust knowledge of plumbing tools, equipment, materials, and safe working practices.
- Experience planning, establishing, supervising, or working within a plumbing shop,



apprenticeship training centre, trade school, or practical training facility is considered a strong asset.
- Experience with Skilled Trades Ontario apprenticeship standards or apprenticeship training is considered an asset.
- Experience supporting educational program development, regulatory approvals, or Ministry submissions is considered an asset..
- Excellent communication, presentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with learning management systems is considered an asset.

Work Schedule: The successful candidate will be expected to manage their time effectively and meet project milestones, deliverables, and deadlines as established by the College.
