Indigenous Youth Mentorship Program (IYMP)

Office of the Vice-President (Indigenous), University of Manitoba The Indigenous Youth Mentorship Program (IYMP), Office of the Vice-President (Indigenous), University of Manitoba, invites applications for part-time After-School Program Leader positions commencing September 11, 2026, and ending April 30, 2027.

Successful candidates will work up to 15 hours per week at various partner schools throughout Winnipeg.

Salary: $16.50 to $18.50 per hour, plus 6% vacation pay.

About IYMP The Indigenous Youth Mentorship Program (IYMP) is a community-based program that promotes healthy lifestyles, leadership development, cultural connectedness, and positive relationships among children and youth. Programming is guided by the Circle of Courage values and the Four Rs of Indigenous Education: respect, relevance, reciprocity, and responsibility.

Position Summary The After-School Program Leader facilitates engaging recreational, cultural, educational, and leadership activities while fostering positive relationships, supporting daily program operations, and creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming workplace for children and youth.

Programming takes place in school and community settings throughout Winnipeg and requires working collaboratively with children, families, school staff, and community partners.

Responsibilities

- Deliver recreational, cultural, educational, and leadership-based activities for children and youth.
- Support program planning, preparation, and implementation.




- Foster positive and respectful relationships with participants.
- Communicate effectively with families, schools, and community partners.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment.
- Follow health and safety policies and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with IYMP staff and school personnel.
- Assist with facility care, equipment setup, and clean-up.
- Demonstrate professionalism and positive role modeling at all times.

QualificationsRequired
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Experience working with children and youth.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Commitment to creating safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive environments.

Assets
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Valid driver's license.
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, communities, and perspectives.
- Experience with community-based programming.

Working Conditions This is a physically active position that may involve standing, walking, bending, lifting program supplies, and participating in games, sports, arts, and cultural activities. Work takes place in classrooms, gyms, outdoor spaces, and community settings.
