Position: Programs and Events Coordinator
Reports To: Executive Director
Location: Fort McMurray, Alberta
Type: Part-Time Contract (20 to 25 hours per week) occasional evenings and weekends
Term: September 2026 to December 2026, with possibility of extension
Compensation: $22 to $25 per hour (commensurate with experience)
About Sport Wood Buffalo Association
Sport Wood Buffalo Association (SWBA) is a regional sport governance nonprofit serving the
Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. SWBA supports sport hosting, community programming,
athlete recognition, and sport development across the region.
Position Summary
SWBA is seeking a Programs and Events Coordinator to provide part-time support through the remainder of 2026. This role will assist with program delivery, event coordination, volunteer management, and administrative operations during a transitional period. The successful candidate will work closely with the Executive Director and a small, collaborative team.
This is a term contract with the possibility of extension into 2027 based on organizational needs and funding.
Key Responsibilities
Programs and Workshops
- Coordinate and deliver sport development workshops in partnership with community stakeholders
- Support planning for Girls with Grit programming (mini summits and 2027 summit)
- Assist with 2027 program planning and development
Events and Fundraising
- Support fundraising event planning and execution
- Assist with event logistics, vendor coordination, and on-site setup as needed
- Coordinate volunteer recruitment, scheduling, and communication for events
Administration and Operations
- Provide general administrative support including email, scheduling, follow-ups, and partner communication
- Maintain and update process documentation, templates, and organizational files
- Support tracking of project timelines, deliverables, and outstanding items
- Assist with data entry, reporting, and documentation as required
Qualifications
Required:
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace
- Available to work on-site in Fort McMurray
- Must be available for occasional evenings and weekends
Preferred:
- Experience in sport, recreation, or nonprofit environments
- Experience with event coordination or volunteer management
- Familiarity with the Wood Buffalo region and its sport community
- Post-secondary education in sport management, recreation, event management, business administration, or a related field (in progress or completed)
Working Conditions
- Part-time schedule of 20 to 25 hours per week with some flexibility in scheduling
- Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for events
- Primarily office-based in Fort McMurray with some in office event work
