Our client, a Calgary-based technology company, is seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Engineer to join its Unify team in a newly created position .
The QA Engineer will play a key role in building and strengthening automated testing practices for modern frontend applications. The successful candidate will work closely with developers and other technical and business stakeholders in an Agile setting. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who can take ownership of automation initiatives, apply risk-based testing principles, and leverage emerging AI-assisted development and QA tools to improve testing quality and efficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, maintain, and enhance automated test suites for modern web and frontend applications
- Build and execute end-to-end automated tests using Playwright, TypeScript, and/or C#
- Develop scalable and maintainable automation approaches that support ongoing application development and releases
- Validate functionality and test coverage for React-based applications and other contemporary frontend technologies
- Develop and apply risk-based testing strategies to prioritize testing efforts and ensure appropriate coverage of business-critical functionality
- Build and maintain automated regression testing to support frequent and reliable software releases
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines , including GitLab-based development and deployment workflows
- Perform API and integration testing to validate communication between applications, services, and external systems
- Investigate test failures and software defects, working closely with developers to identify root causes and verify fixes
- Use AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor to generate and refine test cases, improve automation code, analyze defects, and increase QA efficiency
- Support testing within cloud and containerized environments using technologies such as AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes
- Collaborate with developers to integrate quality practices throughout the software development lifecycle rather than treating testing as a standalone activity
- Contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes, automation frameworks, testing standards, and development practices
- Communicate testing results, risks, defects, and quality considerations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Participate actively in Agile/Scrum ceremonies , including sprint planning, stand-ups, refinement, reviews, and retrospectives
Qualifications:
- Significant professional experience in software quality assurance and test automation , ideally within modern frontend or web application environments
- Strong hands-on experience with Playwright for automated end-to-end testing
- Strong programming or scripting capabilities using TypeScript and/or C#
- Experience testing React applications or comparable modern frontend technology stacks
- Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and maintaining automated regression test suites
- Strong understanding of QA methodologies, risk-based testing, test design, defect management, and software testing best practices
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and working within modern DevOps environments
- Hands-on experience with API testing and validating integrations with external systems
- Experience using AI-assisted development or QA tools such as Cursor to support test generation, automation development, defect analysis, or related testing activities
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to investigate complex software issues
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with developers and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum development teams
- Experience with AWS, Docker, and/or Kubernetes is an asset
- Exposure to performance testing is an asset but is not a primary requirement for this position
NOTE : Interested candidates who meet the above qualifications are encouraged to apply directly. Due to the volume of applications, only those shortlisted will be contacted.
