For more information about the Board and district, visitPosition SummaryReporting to the school Principal, The Educational Assistant – Special Education provides assistance and supports safety to the student(s) in daily routines, recreational activities and life skills as required and contributes to the total care and wellbeing of the student.QualificationsCollege diploma in Behaviour Science Technology, Developmental Service Worker, Child and Youth Worker or Social Service Worker or a diploma in Early Childhood Education or Personal Support Worker Certificate combined with experience working with students with complex needs.A minimum of 2 years of previous experience working with children/adolescents with learning or developmental disabilities in a formal environmentExcellent verbal skillsExcellent interpersonal skillsCapable of working in various settingsAn understanding of school responsibility for learner progressAbility to function within an interdisciplinary team and take directionProven ability to deal with confidential information in a discreet mannerKnowledge of relevant Special Education resource toolsWillingness to accept technical training as requiredExperience in alternative communication is an assetExperience in basic computer skills is an assetOral and written English language proficiency is requiredWhat you would bring to the TeamThe Board is seeking candidates who demonstrate the following core competencies:CommunicationShares and receives information and ideas in a variety of ways and adapts to the needs of the audience to ensure the message is understood.InnovationCreates, develops and implements current processes or services with the aim of improving the learning community for all.Interpersonal RelationsDisplays characteristics and personal attributes that enhance communication and interactions.
