QUEEN'S KNIGHTS ROBOTICS DESIGN TEAM LEAD:
We are a close-knit, interdisciplinary group of ambitious students dedicated to creating robots for the Advanced Robotics Competition. Our team provides an inclusive workplace for students to collaborate and explore the world of robotics. We have four different sub-teams that each have their own important tasks, expectations, requirements, and benefits to your career. Below explains each sub team lead position and you can specify which you are interested in through the application.
SOFTWARE:
The Software Design Team Lead position presents an exciting opportunity for all students looking to challenge themselves in software engineering and automated robotics. Everyone interested is strongly encouraged to apply, regardless of prior experience or background.
Requirements:
- Interest in embedded systems, robotic controls and navigation, autonomy and/or machine learning algorithms
- An eagerness to learn, open-minded, and ability to collaborate with others
- Posses leadership, accountability, and organization to run a well-structured team
- Experience with coding in C++ or Python is an asset but by no means necessary
Potential Projects:
- Robotic control systems for omnidirectional navigation and gimbal control
- Autonomous path planning and aiming systems
- Object Detection using modern machine learning models
Responsibilities:
- Developing onboarding content and teaching members C++ fundamentals
- Fostering a collaborative and results-driven team environment
- Managing team progress to meet deadlines
- Robotics software design, integration, and validation
Members will gain:
- Leadership, Communication, and Project Management Skills
- Deep understanding of robotic controls, autonomy, and machine learning
- Software development experience in C++ and Python
- Life-long friendships and memories in a growing community

ELECTRICAL:
The Electrical Design Team Lead position presents an exciting opportunity for all students looking to challenge themselves in electrical hardware design and hardware management. Everyone interested is strongly encouraged to apply, regardless of prior experience or background.
Requirements:
- Interest in microcontroller technology with applications in MOSFET control as well as interest in the C programming language
- Interest in power electronics, circuit theory, and PCB design
- An eagerness to learn, open-minded, and ability to collaborate with others
- Posses leadership, accountability, and organization to run a well-structured team
- Experience with microcontrollers and coding is an asset but by no means necessary
- Experience with KiCAD and LTspice is also an asset but by no means necessary
Potential Projects:
- Program the buck-boost control system for the supercapacitor module on a microcontroller (likely STM32)
- Voltage, current, and temperature measurement and regulation systems
- PCB design for a supercapacitor module that includes a 4-gate DC-DC converter and the supercapacitor
Responsibilities:
- Developing onboarding content and teaching members:
- Microcontroller fundamentals
- Basic circuit theory
- KiCAD software
- LTspice simulation
- Other relevant electronics fundamentals such as MOSFET operation, voltmeter and ammeter usage, and safety
- Fostering a collaborative and results-driven team environment
- Managing team progress to meet deadlines
- Microcontroller programming, integration, and testing
- PCB design, component selection, SPICE simulation, assembly, and testing
Members will gain:
- Leadership, Communication, and Project Management skills
- Understanding in the use and behaviour of microcontrollers
- Practical experience in power electronics design
- Competency in KiCAD and LTspice
- Practical experience with PCB and SPICE software
- Life-long friendships and memories in a growing community

MECHANICAL The Mechanical Design Team Lead position presents an exciting opportunity for all students looking to challenge themselves in advanced robotics and CAD construction. Everyone interested is strongly encouraged to apply, regardless of prior experience or background.
Requirements:
- Interest in the design, manufacturing, and fabrication of mechanical systems
- An eagerness to learn, open-minded, and ability to collaborate with others
- Posses leadership, accountability, and organization to run a well-structured team
- Experience with CAD software is an asset but by no means necessary
Potential Projects:
- Designing the robot launcher, gimbal, and feed system
- Designing a new chassis system with X-Drive wheels
- Redesigning and building on already constructed robots
Responsibilities:
- Developing onboarding content and teaching members CAD fundamentals
- Fostering a collaborative and results-driven team environment
- Managing team progress to meet deadlines
- Oversee design reviews and testing of 3D-printed models
Members will gain:
- Leadership, Communication, and Project Management
- Deep understanding of CAD design, materials, and manufacturing of robotic systems
- Extensive knowledge of using CAD software and 3D printing tools
- Life-long friendships and memories in a growing community

BUSINESS:
The Business and Operations Team Lead position presents a unique opportunity to grow as a leader while overseeing all business operations within the team. Everyone interested is strongly encouraged to apply, regardless of prior experience or background.
Requirements
- Interest in business management, sponsorship, marketing and EDII.
- An eagerness to learn, open-minded, and ability to collaborate with others
- Posses leadership, accountability, and organization to run a well-structured team
Responsibilities
- Manage financial budget and track all cash flows through the Bank of EngSoc finance system
- Identify and approach businesses for financial support and partnerships
- Develop sponsorship package and proposals tailored to meet the needs and interests of potential sponsors
- Oversee grant applications to secure funding for club activities and projects
- Manage marketing initiatives such as creating social media content, posters, and maintaining the QKRT website
- Identify and analyze EDII gaps within the team culture
Members will gain experience in:
- Financial record and cash flow management
- Strong organizational, leadership, and finance competency
- Communication proficiency and interpersonal skills
- Developing design skills, including graphics and visual content creation
- Life-long friendships and memories in a growing community
