The Special Education Coordinator provides teacher support and system leadership in special education consistent with the Board's Special Education Plan. The Coordinator acts as a resource for principals, SERTs, and classroom educators, supporting effective programming, evidence‑informed instructional practices, and inclusive approaches that respond to the strengths and needs of all learners. EQAO and other student‑learning data are used to support school and system improvement. Equity and inclusive education and Indigenous education are intentionally woven through planning, professional learning, and program supports to reduce barriers and improve outcomes for students.ResponsibilitiesMaintains regular communication and visits schools as required to observe and assist with programs for exceptional children.Assists SERTs and classroom teachers in the design and implementation of IEPs and transition plans.Works collaboratively with other system‑level coordinators and leads to ensure coordinated program delivery for students and staff.Acts as a resource to the SEAC and attends RSEC meetings as required by the Board.Assists schools with the interpretation of psychological reports to parents/guardians.Liaises with community associations and agencies as necessary.Provides training to Educational Assistants and other support staff during professional activities.Leads inclusive special education programming and instructional support aligned with UDL, differentiated instruction, and evidence‑informed practices.Supports school teams in developing student self‑regulation and safety plans, promoting well‑being, engagement,



and readiness to learn.Supports evidence‑informed improvement using EQAO and other student‑learning data to set goals and strengthen programming.Weaves equity, inclusive, and Indigenous education into all special‑education supports, promoting barrier‑free and culturally responsive practices.QualificationsCertificate of registration with the Ontario College of Teachers (in good standing).Minimum of Religious Education Part 1.Special Education Specialist qualifications.Previous leadership experience at a school or system level.Robust knowledge of curriculum and instruction, special education, and experience leading system‑wide initiatives.Demonstrated ability to mentor and support colleagues.Experience with data analysis and strategic planning.Effective communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills.Background in instructional leadership, professional development, and/or change management.Ability to meet school and/or Board deadlines.Sound understanding of relevant Board Special Education procedures and Ministry of Education policies and priorities.Salary and BenefitsIn accordance with the current OECTA collective agreement, dependent upon qualifications and experience, salary ranges from $62,760 to $119,949 annually.
