Job Overview

We are seeking a versatile and reliable Red Seal Mechanic to join our team, long term!

Mechanic will directly support our Landscape Construction & Maintenance workshop as directed by multiple Superintendents.

The Red Seal

Mechanic role is critical for company project timelines, success, and equipment longevity. As a Senior Mechanic, you must lead your team, share your knowledge, and find efficient solutions to a vast variety of mechanical problems, from basic to complex scenarios.

MDL Landscaping serves Cochrane, Calgary, Airdrie, and surrounding areas in between.

Responsibilities

- You will work hand-in-hand with Superintendents, Foreman, Labourers, and Management requests, by prioritizing equipment, vehicles, or machinery that are being problematic, diagnosing the issue, then present and apply a solution to the problem.
- As a Red Seal Mechanic, you must have experience working with, but no limited to; vehicles such as generic Ford F-150s, up to F-750s, Peterbilt Tandems, CAT Heavy Machinery (Skid-Steers, Excavators, Front-end Loaders, etc.), basic utility trailers up to flat-deck gooseneck trailers, gasoline and diesel powered engines, and down to lawnmowers, leaf blowers, and other related smaller landscape maintenance tools.
- You will be the one of the first point of contacts within the workshop for repair updates or shop-related material orders.
- You must be comfortable working with a partner or independently, while taking ownership of the work you do.
- As a Red Seal Mechanic, ideally, you are adept at inspecting for mechanical issues before they show themselves and prevent as much downtime as possible.
- Mechanically, you will be looking after general maintenance of machinery (oil changes, fluids, flat tire replacements, solving minor problems inside and outside of any vehicle, tool,



or heavy machinery that may arise from general wear-and-tear over the season), up to the removal and replacements of turbos, engine blocks, or transmissions, as examples.
- The Red Seal Mechanic must operate in a controlled workshop environment, sometimes during high stress periods where machinery may need to be repaired promptly, to meet job specific deadlines in the field.
- The Red Seal Mechanic must safely maneuver and operate any given equipment in and around MDL Landscaping's yard and workshop. Sometimes within residential & commercial locations, when required for diagnoses and pickup, where there is potential for high pedestrian or vehicle traffic.
- The Red Seal mechanic must follow general workshop code and operation related to the Alberta standards for safety and mechanical regulations.
- You will be responsible for presenting, demonstrating, and maintaining safety standards within MDL's workshop.
- While repairing and inspecting any equipment, you will do so with a high standard of awareness for safety, for yourself and the team around you.
- Running the workshop in tandem with your team, it is essential you value and create a clean working space to limit mess as much as possible, for safety purposes.

Requirements

- You are a Red Seal Mechanic.
- You have basic experience operating Skid Steers, Frontend Loaders, Excavators, hand maintenance equipment, and driving vehicles.
- You apply critical thinking related to troubleshooting and diagnoses of mechanical problems.
- Experience coordinating with third-party parts suppliers,



dealerships, and inspection certification business.
- A minimum, valid driver’s license (CDL Class-5), related mechanic certifications as needed. You will be tasked to pickup, deliver, or receive machinery, parts, and vehicles.
- An understanding of the landscape construction, maintenance, and snow removal industry for mechanical upkeep and repair needs.
- Be methodical when tracking and filing vehicle and machine logs, receipts, certifications (e.g., CVIPS), and weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual maintenance inspections on everything job scope related.
- Be technologically capable for tracking your own hours, and safety standard, and vehicle inspection forms digitally.
- Available to work weekends as required (rarely, but sometimes specific machinery must be ready to operate for job related deadlines).
- Be open minded, have a strong willingness to learn, and the ability to teach/train others.
- Be skillful with leadership orientated methods and approaches.
- Be comfortable working with a team comprised of different personalities and skill levels.
- Be able lift up a minimum of 50 pounds when necessary.
- A critical level of strong attention to safety protocols within a workshop.
- A detail-oriented approach to accomplish the job requirements and be versatile for last minute priority changes.
- Compensation is negotiable depending on experience.

MDL Landscaping focuses on Spring, Summer, and Fall seasonal operations for Landscape Construction and Landscape Maintenance projects. MDL offers snow removal services in the winter, as well.
