Position Summary:

The Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN) is a key member of the Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN) clinical team, providing flexible, patient-centred nursing care across the organization based on operational, staffing, and patient care needs. The Float Pool RN works collaboratively with interprofessional teams and provides care within the scope of professional nursing practice, demonstrating adaptability and leadership across a variety of clinical environments and patient populations.

The Float Pool RN promotes cooperative team practice through ongoing assessment and analysis of patient outcomes and utilizes evidence-based practice to support professional accountability and the delivery of safe, high-quality care. The RN acts as a role model and provides clinical consultation, support, and intervention to other members of the health care team.

This position provides broad organizational coverage across WRHN and may be assigned to a variety of inpatient and clinical areas, including, but not limited to, Complex Continuing Care (CCC), Rehabilitation, Specialized Mental Health (SPMH), and other programs and units requiring nursing support.



The Float Pool RN may be required to move between units or clinical areas within a shift and may provide coverage at different WRHN sites, including outpatient clinics based on organizational needs.

The Float Pool RN demonstrates leadership in the effective and efficient utilization of nursing resources and contributes to maintaining continuity and quality of patient care across WRHN. The RN is expected to demonstrate flexibility, professionalism, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to quickly adapt to different care environments, teams, and patient needs.

The RN contributes to ensuring a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors and supports WRHN’s commitment to Advancing Exceptional Care through responsive, collaborative, and patient-centred nursing practice.

Position Requirements:

- Current Registration Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Experience in the areas of restorative, rehabilitative, palliative or complex medicine an asset
- Experience with chronic ventilators an asset
- Current BCLS required
- GPA and Code White certification required
- Ability to respond to emergency situations; rapidly identifying priorities and complex patient care needs
- Demonstrated assessment skills and the ability to function independently
- Demonstrated teaching, communication, interpersonal and team building skills required
- MDS assessment training preferred
- Recognized gerontology, palliative care and rehabilitation courses are an asset Good attendance record
