Job Number: 55216The mission of the Waste Education and Outreach team is to inform, engage, and empower Edmontonians to fully participate in their City’s waste system. This position supports the planning, delivery and evaluation of community outreach for priority projects under the City of Edmonton’s 25-Year Waste Strategy. Reporting to the Program Lead, Waste Outreach, this role will be responsible for the planning, delivery and evaluation of door-to-door outreach programs.While the Program Lead is responsible for managing the overall strategy of outreach programs, this position oversees and coordinates the program’s day-to-day program activities, leading a team of Waste Outreach Educators, including recruitment, training, proactive team culture development, and performance mentorship. The Coordinator also models excellent customer care when engaging residents in conversation during doorstep visits or outreach events and collaborates closely with internal partners, residents, and property managers. Finally, the program relies on our Coordinators to guide the gathering and sharing of critical program data to inform strategic decisions made by the Waste Services branch.What will you do?As one of three Coordinators, this role currently oversees outreach program delivery to support the apartment and condo transition to food scraps and recycling collection.Plan, deliver and evaluate outreach programs to support Waste Service's strategic goalsLead a team of Waste Outreach Educators, including recruitment, training, scheduling, proactive team culture development and performance mentorshipModel excellent customer care when engaging residents in conversation during doorstep visits or outreach eventsCommunicate effectively with individual residents, property managers and internal partnersSupport the design of program evaluation approaches and conduct regular program evaluation using data collected from ArcGIS, other data collection tools, photographs, and quantitative/qualitative dataRespond to the escalation of challenging customer interactions experienced by Outreach EducatorsProvide technical information and training for Waste Outreach Educators and the larger team on challenging interactions with the publicQualifications:Degree in Education, Business (Management), Recreation/Leisure, Political Sciences, or a related discipline, with some training in program developmentMinimum two (2) years related experience in curriculum development,



program evaluation or related specialization such as experience planning and leading dynamic Waste Outreach programsAssets:Supervisory experience leading a team of ten (10) or more, including training in related leadership coursesKnowledge of the City of Edmonton’s waste services and programsExperience using GIS apps for data collection and evaluationExperience in an operational environmentSkills Required for Success:Knowledge of the effective delivery of educational programs, including effective education approaches and behaviour change tacticsAbility to work independently with limited supervision, as well as solve problems and know when to escalateKnowledge of how to conduct a conversation with members of the public outside of a script in a de-escalation manner while still focussing on waste behaviour changeAbility to provide solid leadership to groups of staff, including communicating priorities, mentoring, guiding and coachingAbility to build and maintain effective relationships that reflect a respectful and inclusive styleStrong skills in program planning, implementation and evaluationExcellent facilitation, verbal and written communication skills, particularly in the development of public education materialsExperience in customer service and engagementExperience in report writingStrong technical acumen with comprehensive data analysis skillsStrong analytical and creative problem-solving skillsWell developed planning, time management, and priority setting skills, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlinesExhibits strong skills in collaboration, teamwork and fostering a positive work environmentExcellent time management skills, including the ability to plan and coordinate work assignmentsProficiency in Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Slides, Forms, Drive) and the ability to learn and adapt to evolving technologyAlignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership CompetenciesEmbracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusionConditions of Employment:Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent).



Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this positionHire is dependent on a Criminal Record Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton. There may be costs associated with this requirementApplicants may be testedWork Environment:Applicants must have access to reliable transportation to commute to and from the workplace with an expectation to work from the office a minimum 4 and and up to 5 days a weekPhysical ability and manual dexterity to safely perform the tasks of the role, which may include bending, lifting up to 25 lbs, and door-to-door canvassing outside including multiple flights of stairs for extended periods of time in various weather and environmental conditionsNote: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time.
