SCOPE:
Under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse, a Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist, this level assists designated patients with assigned rehabilitative activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of a Rehabilitation Assistant Program plus one year’s recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal and work with others effectively.
- Physical and mental ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Ability to work with dementia residents.
- Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to distinguish smells and temperatures.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists assigned resident with established rehabilitative activities such as mobility and strengthening exercises,
walking and activities of daily living as directed; demonstrates to residents the use of prescribed treatment/adaptive devices such as wheelchairs and walkers and modified eating utensils and personal care items, as direct.
- Assists residents in dressing and toilet needs as required in preparation for and following rehabilitative treatment; assists lifting/transfers and positioning as directed.
- Transports residents to and from rehabilitative programs.
- Reports observations of residents’ behaviour and progress to Therapist/Nurse; communicates concerns and/or changes to the resident’s condition.
- Sets up and organizes furnishings and equipment for related activities as directed; cleans and maintains equipment and malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff.
- Maintains established inventory of equipment devices and materials.
- Assists residents with meals and participates in the special meal program.
- Assists residents with toileting program.
- Attends education and in-services relevant to the organization as provided by the Employer.
- Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements:
- A current and clear Criminal Records Check Form and Clearance Letter prior to the hire date.
- A tuberculosis screening that has been completed no more than 12 months prior to the hire date.
