MOUNTAIN ROSE WOMEN’S SHELTER
RELIEF CRISIS WORKER (NIGHTS AND WEEKENDS)
The responsibilities of the position include ensuring documentation related to statistics and client(s) files is current and facilitating a team environment among all shelter staff.
The Crisis
Worker is also responsible for ensuring that all security features are functional and shelter personnel and clients follow established procedures. It is also expected that all staff complete basic maintenance and housekeeping duties of the shelter in compliance with health and safety standards.
All staff is expected to respect, and facilitate, the security of the shelter, shelter personnel, and shelter clients. All staff will ensure all duties associated with the position and the specific shifts are completed in a timely and appropriate manner.
SERVICE DELIVERY
- Develop supportive relationships within a crisis intervention and domestic violence framework. Educating women to their alternatives and assisting in problem solving in a manner both flexible and appropriate to their individual needs. Staff response is non-judgmental and empathetic.
- Participate in the Intensive Case Management Team meetings, using Trauma Informed Practices, to assess risk and provide specialized housing and support services to ensure that the unique needs of the women and children leaving family violence are met.
- Assess the immediate physical and medical needs of the client and her children and make appropriate referrals upon admission.
- Ensure clients are properly oriented to the house including shelter policies and procedures in a timely and respectful manner.
- Work with the clients to: identify needs (emotional, parenting, medical, legal, cultural, spiritual, financial, and housing), develop a relevant case plan, ensure referral/connection to appropriate resources, and support client in following through in a timely manner.
- Ensuring the physical needs of food, shelter and safety are provided for women and children in crisis, 24 hours per day, and seven days per week.
- Respond to crisis calls and general business calls in a respectful, timely, and conscientious manner.
- Undertake an advocacy/mediator role,
as needed, to assist the client in developing linkages with other resources. (Maintains a comprehensive working knowledge of community resources pertinent to the clients needs. Ensures that clients and staff are aware of the community resources and activities).
- Undertake a teaching role, and facilitate positive parent/child interaction, by providing information and role modeling of appropriate parenting behaviors.
- Provide support and/or debriefing to staff as needed.
- In exceptional circumstances, provide competent care of the children’s physical and emotional needs in the mother’s absence.
- Daily, clearly, and concisely document pertinent information and observations.
- Maintain a current knowledge of community resources relevant to residents of all ages.
- Represent the agency to service providers and community agencies and services in a positive and professional manner.
- Be a team player.
HOUSEHOLD RESPONSIBILITIES Assist and participate in on-going household maintenance activities by:
- Complete client in-takes including assisting client with moving/carrying personal belongings to assigned room (suitcases, boxes, etc.) utilizing cart provided.
- Completing household tasks and ensuring client has necessary support, information, and materials to follow through when client(s) are participating with daily chores.
- Maintaining a current awareness of fire, security, health, and safety procedures and always maintaining those standards.
- Addressing basic maintenance and repair needs of shelter in a timely manner.
- Ensuring proper storage of all food products prepared and/or received in shelter.
- Complete cleaning/sterilizing of rooms after client discharge to prepare room for next in-take.
- Completing all housekeeping duties assigned to shift worked. NOTE:
Midnight shifts have extensive housekeeping responsibilities.
STAFF RELATIONSHIPS AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT To participate fully and consistently in staff development activities by:
- Fully participating in scheduled supervision and staff development meetings, in-services, and training.
- Making consistent efforts to up-grade knowledge and skills in pertinent areas.
- Effectively completing projects as assigned.
- Productive, positive, and consistent participation as a member of the Shelter team (consisting of resource people, volunteers, staff, and Board)
- Assisting with orientation of new Crisis Workers and others as requested by the Executive Director and/or Designate.
ADMINISTRATION
- Ensure all agency forms and documentation is current and accurate.
- Submit timesheets and expense claims according to established procedures.
- Document and manage pharmacy receipts, phone cards, bus tickets, and taxi receipts.
- Notify the Executive Director or Designate of any non-emergency repairs or damage.
- Maintain a current knowledge of agency policies and procedures and ensure their implementation as they apply to this position.
SUPERVISION The Crisis Workers report directly to the Executive Director or Designate. The Executive Director works to ensure the safe, consistent operations of the Mountain Rose Centre.
Qualifications:
- Diploma in Social work or minimum 3 years experience in the Human Services Field
- Knowledge of Family Violence
- Crisis Worker Training
- ASSIT Training
- Knowledge of Aboriginal Cultures
- Able to work with no or little supervision
- Dependable, reliable, honest, trustful
- Computer literacy
- Able to work in a team environment
Performance/Self Evaluation: The Executive Director or designate of the Mountain Rose Women’s Shelter Association will complete an evaluation of job performance of the Crisis worker at three months, 6 months and then yearly after.
Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour
