Merit for Training

Toronto

Merit Ontario is a construction association supporting small to large construction companies with workforce needs across Ontario. Our talent specialists provide recruitment services and customized solutions to find quality candidates.

Forest Fence & Deck — Richmond Hill, ON

- Full-time, permanent $60,000 base + 12% of gross margin
- On-target earnings $108,000
- Uncapped The short version

We hand you 30-50 qualified inbound leads a month. No cold calling, no lead generation. The average project is $20,000. Your job is to manage inbound requests, generate quotes and convert.

Who We Are

Forest Fence & Deck has been a premier destination for expert deck design and installation in the GTA for over 40 years. We specialize in transforming outdoor spaces into places people actually want to spend time. Forty years in, we are entering a new phase — this is our first dedicated sales hire, and we are building the sales function around the person who takes it.

What You'll Be Selling

- Primarily residential decks — pressure-treated and composite, new builds and full

replacements
- Fencing — wood, and composite
- Other outdoor structures — pergolas, privacy screens, railings and related outdoor

living work Average project value is approximately $20,000, and most deals close within one to two visits.

This role is residential only — commercial, municipal and builder projects are handled by our technical design team, so you stay focused on the work that closes fastest.

What We're Looking For The single most key skill in this role is the ability to close. We are not asking you to build a pipeline from nothing — we already have more inbound demand than we are converting. We need someone who can sit at a kitchen table, understand what a homeowner actually wants,

present a $20,000 proposal with confidence, and ask for the business. You will own conversion.

We measure close rate, revenue booked and gross margin. We will share our current numbers in the first interview, and we expect you to ask.

Responsibilities

- Review and qualify inbound sales inquiries
- Conduct on-site visits to gather measurements and project requirements
- Understand client needs, preferences and budget
- Prepare and submit quotes through our CRM
- Present design concepts and estimates in person or over video, addressing questions

and objections
- Follow up on open quotes and drive them to a decision
- Work with the Company Owner, Operations Manager to keep improving the sales process

The support you get

- Leads come to you — 30-50 a month from our website, Google, HomeStars, Houzz,

Home Depot Local Pro, paid social and referrals
- Fast, accurate estimating — our in-house estimation system prices a deck in minutes,

not hours, so you can put real numbers in front of a homeowner while you are still standing in their backyard.
- A real CRM — quotes, client history and follow-ups live in Jobber, with a shared phone

line and two-way SMS
- A fractional sales coach works with you on methodology, call reviews and closing

technique

Compensation

Base: $60,000 per year, paid year-round.

Commission: 12% of the gross margin on every project you book, earned when the deal is signed — not when it is built.

Annual sales booked Gross profit Commission at 15% Total earnings

$800,000 $267,000 $32,000 $92,000

$1,200,000 (target) $400,000 $48,000 $108,000

$1,800,000 $600,000 $72,000 $132,000

Figures are approximate and based on our typical gross margin. At a $20,000 average ticket,

$1.2 million is roughly 60 projects a year — about five a month. Commission is uncapped,

margin varies by project, and you will have visibility into how it is calculated on every job.

What Success Looks Like

- First 30 days: riding along on site visits, learning our products and pricing, running your

own appointments by month end
- First 90 days: carrying a full lead load independently, close rate trending toward target
- First year: $1.2 million booked at healthy margin

Seasonality — the honest version This is a year-round salaried position, but fence and deck work is seasonal and we would rather say so up front than have you discover it in January. Spring and summer are intense: high lead volume, back-to-back site visits,

some weekend appointments. Fall and winter are genuinely quieter on new inquiries.

Here is how the off-season works:

- You book spring builds in winter. Much of our spring construction is sold in the

off-season — and since commission is paid at booking, winter selling pays you in winter
- You work the aged quotes. Every unclosed quote from the season is a live opportunity,

and the off-season is when there is finally time to work them properly
- You represent us at trade and home shows, which are mostly in winter and early spring
- You help us sharpen the process — to become more effective for the next season
- Your base and commission continues year-round, so income does not disappear

Requirements

Must have

- 5+ years of in-home residential sales (decks, fencing, windows, roofing, sunrooms,

kitchens or comparable home improvement)
- A demonstrable track record of closing at the kitchen table at a similar or higher average

ticket
- Valid driver's licence and your own vehicle
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Comfort working in a CRM (Jobber, Salesforce, HubSpot or similar) with digital quoting

and video calls
- Able to commute to Richmond Hill, ON L4E 2S9 and travel to client sites across the

GTA. Nice to have: selling composite decking; familiarity with on-site measuring and reading construction drawings;

experience with a structured sales methodology.

What matters as much as the résumé: proactivity, a can-do attitude, and genuine willingness to adapt your working style as we build this function together.

Details

Schedule: 40 hours, Monday to Friday, with some weekend site visits to accommodate customer schedules.

Location: in person — office in Richmond Hill, client sites across the GTA.

Benefits

- flexible working hours,
- paid time off.

Reports to: Company Owner, with coaching from our fractional sales coach.

How To Apply

Send your resume along with a few sentences on three things: (1) your close rate in your current or most recent role, and how you know it; (2) your average ticket size; (3) the last deal you thought you had lost and saved. We read every one of these — it tells us more than a resume does.
