Position Description – Residential Support Worker (Breton House)

Position Summary The Residential Support Worker provides compassionate, client-centred support to residents in a structured, bed-based supportive treatment environment. The role promotes safety, stability, and independence by assisting with daily living activities, encouraging recovery, and supporting residents in achieving their individual goals.

Job Requirements

- Diploma in Social Services or a related field is considered a solid asset.
- Experience working with women experiencing substance use concerns, particularly in a rehabilitation centre, congregate living setting, or similar environment, is considered an asset.
- Demonstrate reliability, flexibility, adaptability, and a positive/helpful approach, with the ability to work effectively in an evolving environment.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and time-management skills, with sensitivity and sound judgment when responding to challenging situations.
- Ability to de-escalate conflict and enforce house rules and program expectations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Willingness to adapt to changes in workplace practices, policies, and technology.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Bilingualism is considered an asset.
- Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check is required upon employment.

Duties And Responsibilities Client Supervision and Support

- Interact with residents in a respectful and supportive manner, recognizing and responding appropriately to their needs and circumstances.
- Monitor and assess situations, events, and conditions within the facility that may impact residents’ safety, well-being, or recovery goals.
- Support residents in identifying and navigating daily challenges,



providing conflict resolution and encouraging healthy communication strategies; refer concerns to counselling staff as required.
- Plan and facilitate a mandatory evening activity that promotes engagement and connection.
- Document activities, concerns, observations, and relevant resident information.
- Respond appropriately to suspected alcohol or substance use in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.

Reception and Administrative Duties

- Answer phone calls, respond to inquiries, and record messages professionally and respectfully.
- Monitor visitors and ensure compliance with visitor procedures.
- Complete assigned administrative duties, including document preparation, data entry, photocopying, and other office tasks.

Health, Safety & Facility Responsibilities

- Follow health and safety policies and procedures, conduct routine inspections, and promptly report and address identified concerns.
- Monitor and review security camera footage as required to identify and address safety and security concerns.
- Complete regular housekeeping and facility support duties, including cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping, transporting and unpacking supplies, and other assigned tasks.
- Supervise residents in completing assigned therapeutic duties and chores while maintaining a fair and consistent rotating schedule.
- Identify and promptly report maintenance concerns and safety issues.
- Perform other duties as assigned including supporting A New Link with child minding and other program-related tasks, as required.

HOURS OF WORK Residential Support Worker Shifts Include Evenings: 4:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m.–midnight Nights: midnight–8:00 a.m.

Weekends: 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m.–midnight, or midnight–8:00 a.m.

Wage $19.75- $20.75 plus 4% in lieu of vacation and 5% in lieu of benefits

Flexibility regarding hours of work is essential. Shift times and schedules are subject to change based on program needs.
