About the Role The Fraser Valley Watersheds Coalition is looking for a Restoration Field Technician to join our field team and support hands-on watershed restoration work throughout the Fraser Valley.

This is a full time, non-permanent position running until March 31, 2027, with the potential for extension. Candidates available for an immediate start are preferred.

The successful candidate will work primarily outdoors and will support a variety of restoration, monitoring, and maintenance activities across project sites in communities including Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Mission, Hope, Maple Ridge, and surrounding areas.

Compensation

$25.52 per hour, plus a monthly cellphone allowance and flexibility in scheduling.

Responsibilities

- Harvest and plant live stakes, willows, native trees, and shrubs
- Support site preparation, including invasive plant control, seeding, and mulching
- Assist with plant layout and volunteer planting events
- Install and maintain herbivory and beaver guards
- Support ongoing restoration site maintenance, including irrigation, invasive species removal, and adaptive management activities
- Assist with water quality, fish, amphibian, and plant survivorship monitoring
- Support mapping of watercourses, wetlands, and riparian areas
- Properly use, maintain, and store field equipment
- Document restoration sites through photos and field observations
- Participate in community events and represent FVWC when engaging with the public
- Follow FVWC health and safety procedures and professional standards




- Support other field activities as assigned

Qualifications

- Grade 12 education required
- Post-secondary education in biology, geography, ecological restoration, or a related field is considered an asset
- Previous field work or landscaping experience is preferred
- Experience using gas-powered tools is an asset
- Knowledge of native flora and fauna is an asset
- Understanding of local watershed and environmental issues in the Fraser Valley is an asset
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Strong physical stamina and comfort working outdoors in changing weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding work including digging, bending, squatting, walking, and standing for extended periods
- Ability to organize daily tasks and work in a fast-paced, seasonally changing environment
- Valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence and/or valid Class 7 “N” licence
- Access to a reliable vehicle to travel to project sites
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends
- Applicants local to the Fraser Valley are preferred

Additional Requirements

Successful candidates must be able to complete a Police Information Check and a Functional Abilities Assessment.
