Redd Skull Comics is Calgary’s best little comic shop. Owned and operated by Kelly Dowd, Redd Skull has been serving Calgary’s comic community for over 20 years. We are a full-service comic store carrying current comics, back issues, graphic novels, trade paperbacks, manga, cards, Statues, T-shirts, comic supplies, and other collectibles.

We also offer comic subscription and file services for customers who want to collect every issue of an ongoing series or limited run. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff help customers discover current favourites and navigate everything the store has to offer. Redd Skull Comics is also involved with the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo, where we operate a vendor booth each year.

Responsibilities

Customer Service

- Provide friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful customer service
- Operate the cash register and point-of-sale system
- Retrieve files for subscription/file customers
- Register customer subscriptions for upcoming comic books and series
- Register books for customer reorders
- Search the store database to locate books and merchandise requested by customers
- Recommend comics, graphic novels, manga, and other products based on customer interests
- Answer customer questions about comics, manga, collectibles, figures, games, and related merchandise

Store Operations
- Restock, Unpack, organize, and sort comic books, graphic novels, manga, and other merchandise
- Replace and update price/book tags on trade paperbacks, hardcovers, and other merchandise
- Maintain an organized and welcoming store environment
- Assist with locating and retrieving back issues from the warehouse [if required]
- Complete other general store duties as needed

Opening and Closing Duties




- Open and close the store independently when scheduled
- Count and balance cash at the beginning and/or end of the day
- Complete daily sales reporting
- Confirm that sales totals match cash register and debit/point-of-sale totals
- Lock and unlock store doors
- Arm and disarm the store security system
- Ensure the store is secure and properly closed at the end of the day

Qualifications

- Moderate to extensive knowledge of comics, graphic novels, manga, figures, collectibles, and related pop-culture merchandise
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Comfortable providing recommendations and discussing comics and related products with customers
- Reliable, responsible, and comfortable working independently
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Comfortable using computers, databases, and point-of-sale systems
- Ability to accurately handle cash and complete basic sales reconciliation
- Ability to lift and move moderately heavy boxes weighing approximately 50 lbs
- Must have access to a reliable vehicle and be able to drive for occasional warehouse retrievals
- Availability to complete opening and closing shifts as scheduled
- Previous retail or customer service experience is an asset
