Our mission is to achieve equality, access and full participation for immigrants and refugees in every aspect of Canadian life. OCASI was founded in 1978 and now has over 250 member agencies across Ontario.Position OverviewThe Senior Communications Coordinator leads the implementation of OCASI’s new Communications Strategy, and is the lead for the organization’s external communications consistent with our Mission and Values.The communications strategy has the following objectives:Strengthen OCASI’s Clarity in Messaging and BrandingUse Communications to Support Both Advocacy and Programs WorkExpand OCASI’s Visibility and Engagement through Social Media and Traditional MediaStrengthen Internal Capacity and Cohesion in Communications OutputThe Senior Communications Coordinator will collaborate across teams to lead the development and implementation of comprehensive communications plans, establish practical processes and guide and support colleagues in adopting consistent messaging, branding, and audience engagement, aligning with organizational values and the AntiRacism Anti‑Oppression (ARAO) Policy.Key ResponsibilitiesInclude, but are not limited to the following:1. Strategy ImplementationImplement OCASI Communication Strategy and socialize across the organization - including advocacy, programs, and special projects; and lead future updatesin collaboration with the staff team.Provide internal strategic advice and support to ensure consistent messaging, branding, and audience engagement.Lead the organization’s internal communications working group, in alignment with the organization’s communication strategy and collaboration with the staff team, develop and implement comprehensive guides and processes for all external communications. This includes overseeing media events,
managing social media and web presence, and establishing a consistent style guide.Ensure all communications reflect the organization’s Mission and Values, ARAO policy, and maintain high standards of quality and consistency, and strengthen relationships with members and key stakeholders.2. Content Development & CoordinationOversee the organization’s content development according to the Communications Strategy and Messaging guide, and develop high quality written and visual content for newsletters, reports, promotional materials, and public communications.Research, write and edit engaging and accessible clear language communications primarily in English.Oversee the organization’s digital presence (including website, social media, email marketing, and online campaigns) for consistency, branding and messaging, and collaborate with staff teams to monitor analytics and performance metrics to optimize reach, engagement, and SEO effectiveness.3. Media Relations, Engagement and AdvocacyLead media outreach and public relations initiatives, including proactive media engagement and campaign amplification.Build and maintain strong relations with OCASI members, partners, and stakeholders.Support issue‑based advocacy aligned with organizational priorities, including developing campaigns and materials.Contribute to planning and execution of organizational and community events, including evaluating outcomes to improve engagement.Qualifications1. Education and Qualified ExperiencePost‑secondary education in communications, journalism, a related field, or equivalent professional experience.3–5 years experience in communications or stakeholder engagement, ideally in an advocacy role.
Experience in non‑profit or community based environments is preferred.Demonstrated experience in developing message strategy, content and channels tailored to specific audiences across copy, visual and multimedia components; and experience with outcomes evaluation.Demonstrated experience in coordinating communications projects and campaigns, collaborating with cross‑functional teams and external partners to achieve strategic goals.2. Communications ExpertiseDemonstrated clear language writing, editing and storytelling skills in English.Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex ideas into relatable content across formats and platforms; skilled in adapting tone and style for diverse goals (advocacy, public education, event promotion) and channels to effectively engage target audiences and drive action.Strong understanding of brand management and audience engagement.3. Technical skillsDigital Fluency - proficiency or familiarity with platforms such as Google Analytics, Canva, Envoke, and Mailchimp to support design, planning, publishing, and measurement.
