SynMatrix Technologies

Toronto

Company Description SynMatrix is an AI/ML company that develops advanced RF design technology to help engineers accelerate the development of RF and microwave components (from initial specifications through simulation, optimization, validation, and manufacturing)

Our platform combines RF engineering, electromagnetic simulation, optimization, and AI/ML to improve traditionally manual RF design workflows. SynMatrix supports applications across wireless communications, 5G/6G, satellite communications, radar, and aerospace and defense (A&D;).

As we expand our capabilities into acoustic RF filters and a broader range of RF passive components, we are looking for an RF Design Engineer with solid RF fundamentals, hands-on component design experience, and the ability to support customers using our EDA software.

Role Description We are seeking an RF Design Engineer - Acoustic Filters & RF Passive Components - to design, simulate, and validate high-performance RF components while supporting the development and adoption of SynMatrix's RF EDA platform.

The role covers acoustic RF filters, including SAW and BAW technologies, as well as RF and microwave passive components such as cavity, waveguide, SIW, ceramic, LTCC, microstrip filters, diplexers, and multiplexers .

The engineer will also work directly with customers to understand their design requirements, support technical workflows, and demonstrate how SynMatrix can improve RF component development.

Responsibilities

RF Filter & Passive Component Design

- Design and optimize SAW and BAW filters and resonators based on product or customer specifications.
- Develop acoustic filter topologies and evaluate key parameters including insertion loss, return loss, bandwidth, rejection, Q,

and spurious responses.
- Design RF and microwave filters and passive components, including cavity, waveguide, SIW, ceramic, LTCC, microstrip, diplexers, multiplexers, resonators, and matching structures.
- Perform filter synthesis, topology selection, coupling analysis, and physical realization from electrical specifications.
- Conduct full-wave electromagnetic simulation using tools such as Ansys HFSS, CST, ADS, or equivalent.
- Perform RF characterization using VNAs and other RF test equipment, analyze S-parameters, troubleshoot performance discrepancies, and validate designs against simulation.
- Correlate simulation and measurement results and continuously improve design models and methodologies.

Client Technical Support & Application Engineering

- Provide technical support to customers using the SynMatrix EDA platform.
- Help customers translate RF design requirements into effective SynMatrix workflows.
- Review customer designs and provide technical recommendations.
- Conduct product demonstrations, technical training, and design workshops.
- Support sales and business development teams during technical customer engagements.
- Collect customer feedback and communicate product requirements to internal teams.
- Work with software and RF engineering teams to resolve customer technical issues.

Preferred Qualifications

- Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, RF/Microwave Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field.
- Experience with SAW and/or BAW filters or acoustic resonators.
- Familiarity with circuit modeling of SAW and BAW resonators, including BVD/MBVD, Mason or other equivalent circuit approaches.
- Familiarity with FEM simulation tools such as Ansys Mechanical for piezoelectric and acoustic-wave device simulation.
- Understanding of piezoelectric materials, acoustic-wave propagation, and electromechanical resonator behavior.
- Experience designing cavity, waveguide, SIW, ceramic, LTCC, or planar RF filters.
- Experience with filter synthesis and coupling-matrix techniques.
- Experience designing diplexers, multiplexers, or other multi-port RF passive networks.
- Knowledge of RF front-end architectures and the interaction among filters, amplifiers, switches, antennas, and matching networks.
- Knowledge of design-for-manufacturing, process variation, and tolerance analysis.
- Programming or scripting experience using Python, MATLAB, or similar languages.
- Previous experience in EDA, application engineering, field application engineering, customer technical support, or customer-facing RF engineering is an asset.

What Success Looks Like A successful engineer in this role will combine strong RF design fundamentals with practical simulation and measurement experience while being comfortable working directly with customers. You will help develop and validate acoustic and microwave passive components, solve customer design challenges, and support the adoption of SynMatrix's EDA platform across a broad range of RF applications.
