The OpportunitySenior Planner, exercising qualified judgement, provides advice to Council, Administration, and the public on the orderly planning and growth of The City of Red Deer and applies accepted planning principles to the preparation and amendment of statutory plans, non‑statutory plans, land use bylaws, and subdivision plans consistent with the intent of the Municipal Government Act.Top Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement planning policy and documents, including land use bylaws and statutory plansProvide expert guidance and recommendations to City Council, Municipal Planning Commission, and internal stakeholdersEnsure compliance with municipal policies, the Municipal Government Act, and related regulationsEngage and collaborate with stakeholders, including applicants, consultants, and the public, to build consensus and resolve issuesLead projects and teams, including interdepartmental initiatives and mentoring junior staffConduct research and analysis to support land use planning decisionsRepresent the City at public meetings, hearings, and stakeholder engagementsDeliver customer service related to planning and subdivision mattersSupport health and safety requirements and perform other assigned dutiesAs our preferred candidate,
you will haveRegistered Professional Planner (RPP) in valuable standing with a Provincial and Territorial Institute or Association (PTIA)Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning or a related field of study (extensive years of experience may be considered equivalent)Minimum of four years directly related planning experienceSubdivision experience would be considered an assetExtensive knowledge of the principles and practices of land use planning, inter‑municipal planning and regional planning including applicable land use and development regulations and requirementsAbility to express ideas effectively, orally and in writing and excellent organizational, report writing and presentation skillsExcellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with community groups and establish and maintain effective working relationships in a multi‑disciplinary team environmentWorking knowledge of Microsoft OfficeVehicle for business useAffiliationCanadian Union of Public Employees, Local 417StatusRegular Full-TimeRemuneration$57.91 to $60.95 per hour.Hours of Work75 hours biweekly, Monday to Friday.
