HOURS OF WORK: The stated hours of work are approximate as schedules are subject to change with the operational needs of the Health Centre. Changes made to hours of work will follow the terms of the applicable collective agreement, company policy and/or legislation.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Reporting to the Manger, Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness, the incumbent is responsible for supporting the organization’s awareness of current requirements in the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) & Regulations, and other applicable legislation. The position acts an advisor, subject matter expert, and resource to several stakeholders and committees supporting the organization to meet these requirements. The position works with the OHSW department and other stakeholders in the creation and implementation of corporate health and safety programs, training, and initiatives.
The position is responsible for completing planned and unplanned safety-related audits, inspections, and investigations. Additionally, the position acts as a liaison to the Ministry of Labour (MOL) and other external stakeholders and has a role in ensuring the timely completion additionally requirements imposed by these parties.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
- University degree or Collegiate Certification in Occupational Health and Safety, or similar related degree or equivalent in education and experience.
- A minimum of 3 years work experience in either an industrial or healthcare facility.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional certification would be an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge, experience and or certification in education, training, facilitation, planning and program development for adult learners.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with staff, physicians, volunteers, patients/families and community partners.
- Demonstrated skills and experience related to minimum legislative requirements for a Safety Program, Risk Management or Quality Assurance experience, including policy and procedure creation and education.
- Experience in a health care setting would be an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislations: Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, WSIB, Public Hospitals Act, Healthcare Consent Act, Privacy Legislation and Infection Control standards.
- Knowledge of patient and employee safety systems including infection control and disaster planning required.
- Membership and participation in a relevant professional organization.

- Demonstrated computer skills: MS Office Suite, spread sheets and data base experience.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive attendance record.
