Job Title: Case Assessment OfficerJob Requisition ID: 83291Ministry: Service Alberta and Red Tape ReductionLocation: Edmonton or CalgaryFull or Part-Time: Full TimeHours of Work: 36.25 hours per weekPermanent/Temporary: PermanentClassification: Program Services 3Salary: $2,935.39 to $3,850.29 bi‑weekly ($76,614 - $100,493/year)Closing Date: June 10, 2026OverviewThe Consumer Investigations Unit seeks a Case Assessment Officer (CAO) to conduct assessments of consumer protection complaints, determine the appropriate course of action, and prepare files for investigation. The role involves interpreting consumer protection statutes, gathering evidence, and providing support to the intake and assessment team.ResponsibilitiesConduct assessments of incoming consumer protection complaints to determine whether to record intelligence, refer information, educate, or recommend an investigation.Ensure that files are prepared for investigations by documenting actions and gathering, securing, and preserving evidence.Interpret, administer, and apply consumer protection statutes and related legislation.Provide support to the Intake and Assessment team as required.Participate in legislative review panels.Contribute to outreach activities and conduct presentations to law enforcement partners.Qualities and QualificationsUniversity graduation in a field related to the position (such as Criminal Justice, Criminology, Policy, Commerce,



or other related field) supplemented by two years of related experience.Two‑Year diploma with a minimum of four years of related experience.One‑Year Certificate with a minimum of five years of related experience.No formal education with six years of related experience.Assets:Knowledge of Alberta’s consumer protection legislation enforced by the Consumer Investigations Unit.Experience in complaint assessment, investigations, prosecution, and/or administrative action.CompetenciesCreative Problem Solving: Uses a range of sources to address new complaint circumstances.Agility: Identifies and manages required change and associated risks.Drive for Results: Meets objectives and helps the team achieve metrics.Build Team-oriented Environments: Collaborates across functional areas and addresses conflict proactively.System Thinking: Takes a long‑term view towards organizational objectives.Work ArrangementThe position is based in Edmonton or Calgary, with a schedule of Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day for a total of 36.25 hours per week.
