Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate, enthusiastic, and reliable Saxophone Instructor to join our team. The successful candidate will teach private and small-group saxophone lessons to children, teens, and adults, helping students develop strong technical skills, musicianship, confidence, and a lifelong love of music.
Responsibilities
- Teach engaging and individualized saxophone lessons to students of all ages and skill levels.
- Instruct students in proper posture, breathing, embouchure, tone production, articulation, finger technique, sight-reading, and musicianship.
- Teach various musical styles, including classical, jazz, pop, contemporary, and improvisation.
- Develop lesson plans tailored to each student's goals, interests, and learning style.
- Prepare students for recitals, performances, festivals, competitions, auditions, and examinations when applicable.
- Teach scales, technical exercises, ear training, and music theory concepts relevant to saxophone studies.
- Encourage creativity, confidence, and strong performance skills.
- Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to students and families.
- Maintain a positive, encouraging, and professional learning environment.
- Communicate effectively with parents, students, and academy administration.
- Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled lessons.
- Participate in academy events, recitals, camps,
and special programs when required.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1–2 years of saxophone teaching experience.
- Degree or diploma in Music Performance, Music Education, Saxophone Performance, or a related field preferred.
- Strong knowledge of saxophone technique, repertoire, musicianship, and pedagogy.
- Ability to teach students from beginner to advanced levels.
- Experience teaching children, teens, and adults.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, energetic, organized, and dependable.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students of all ages and abilities.
- Ability to teach beginner music theory is considered an asset.
- Vulnerable Sector Check (or willingness to obtain one).
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience preparing students for performances, festivals, competitions, auditions, and examinations.
- Experience teaching multiple styles, including jazz improvisation and contemporary music.
- Ability to teach additional woodwind instruments, such as clarinet or flute, is considered a strong asset.
- Experience teaching group classes, ensembles, or camps.
- Experience with online instruction and educational technology.
- Experience working with students with diverse learning needs.
