We are seeking an experienced, highly organized designated accountant to oversee the day-to-day accounting and tax-filing requirements of multiple related companies.
The Position
This is a hands-on accounting position for someone who can take ownership of the complete accounting cycle, including corporate and indirect tax compliance. The successful candidate must be comfortable managing multiple companies, bank accounts, payment platforms, tax filings and competing priorities while maintaining accurate, current and verifiable financial records.
The successful candidate must also have practical working experience supporting or managing audits, tax appeals, government reviews, assessments, objections and financial disputes. This includes preparing supporting documentation, reconciling records, responding to information requests and working with external accountants, auditors, tax advisors, legal counsel or government authorities as required.
You must be exceptionally detail-oriented and able to identify discrepancies before they become larger problems. This position requires someone who follows instructions carefully, communicates concerns promptly and does not make assumptions involving company funds, tax filings, audits, disputes or financial reporting.
This is an in-office position for candidates who are already located in Calgary, Alberta. Applicants must currently reside in Calgary and be available to work in the Calgary office. This is not a remote or relocation-based opportunity.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle accounting for multiple related companies
- Maintain accurate general ledgers and supporting records
- Complete bank, credit-card and payment-platform reconciliations
- Prepare accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Record and verify customer payments, fees, refunds and adjustments
- Monitor cash flow and prepare regular cash-position reports
- Prepare monthly financial statements and internal management reports
- Maintain accurate intercompany accounts and transactions
- Prepare, review and file GST returns and other applicable tax filings
- Assist with corporate income tax filings, tax schedules and year-end tax compliance
- Maintain tax working papers, filing calendars and supporting documentation
- Reconcile tax accounts and investigate discrepancies
- Support audits, reviews, examinations, assessments, appeals, objections and disputes
- Prepare audit and dispute files, schedules, reconciliations and supporting documentation
- Respond to auditor, tax-authority, advisor and other information requests
- Track deadlines, correspondence and required follow-up for audits, appeals and disputes
- Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, tax advisors and legal representatives when required
- Coordinate payroll information and related remittances
- Organize year-end records and work with external accountants and tax advisors
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting and financial planning
- Review transactions for errors, duplication or irregularities
- Maintain clear supporting documentation and audit trails
- Follow established approval procedures before processing payments or submitting filings
- Protect confidential customer, banking, corporate and tax information
- Assist management with special projects and financial analysis
Required Qualifications
- Minimum five years of relevant accounting or senior accounting experience
- Active CPA or CA designation, or an equivalent recognized Canadian accounting designation
- Demonstrated experience preparing and filing tax returns and related government filings
- Practical experience with GST/HST filings and corporate income tax compliance
- Working experience supporting or managing audits, tax appeals, objections, assessments, reviews or financial disputes
- Experience preparing audit files, dispute documentation, reconciliations, schedules and responses to information requests
- Strong full-cycle accounting knowledge
- Proficiency in QuickBooks is required
- Demonstrated ability to use QuickBooks for general ledger management, reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable and financial reporting
- Experience working with multiple companies or business divisions
- Advanced proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Demonstrated experience with bank and credit-card reconciliations
- Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management and tax reconciliations
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to verify your own work
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage deadlines without sacrificing accuracy
- High level of discretion, professionalism and integrity
- Ability to work independently while following management direction
- Comfortable working in a rapid-moving, entrepreneurial organization
- Must already be located in Calgary, Alberta and available to work in-office
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in consumer finance, lending, real estate or property management
- Experience dealing with Canada Revenue Agency, provincial tax authorities or other regulatory bodies
- Experience with tax audits, reassessments, objections, appeals or collections-related disputes
- Experience with CRM-based financial records
- Knowledge of Canadian corporate, GST, payroll and tax requirements
- Experience coordinating with external accountants, auditors, tax advisors or legal counsel
- Experience improving accounting controls, tax-compliance processes, audit procedures, dispute-management processes, reporting procedures and workflows
Technology and Information-Security Requirements Because this position involves sensitive financial, customer and tax information, the successful candidate must consistently follow the company’s computer-use, cybersecurity and privacy procedures.

- Using company systems only for authorized business purposes
- Following all instructions involving suspicious emails, links and attachments
- Immediately reporting potential security incidents or unusual system activity
- Never downloading unauthorized software or sharing confidential information
- Maintaining secure passwords and observing all access-control requirements

You understand that accounting is not merely data entry: it is a control, compliance and documentation function that protects the entire organization.
You take ownership of your work, verify important figures, meet tax-filing deadlines and immediately disclose errors or uncertainties. You are comfortable asking questions when instructions are unclear and understand that transparency is essential when dealing with company funds, financial reporting, tax compliance, audits, appeals and disputes.
You are also able to remain organized and professional when responding to audits, assessments, information requests or disagreements involving financial records. You understand the importance of complete documentation, accurate timelines, clear written responses and preserving a reliable audit trail.
