Under the supervision of a licensed Instructor, a Simulated Participant (SP) supports the experiential and simulated learning by portraying patients, family members, and/or health care professionals in simulated clinical problems or scenarios for course practice, assessments, and examinations. The SP provides a consistent and realistic portrayal of real-life clinical scenarios, predefined for the course learning needs, student practice and examinations. This job is on an on‑call, as needed basis. Hours of work are dependent on simulation needs and the incumbent’s best fit for the characteristics needed in the scenarios being simulated. Hours of work are on a casual basis and can range from 4–8 hours a day, 1–8 times per semester when called for a simulation.Duties & ResponsibilitiesSimulate patient, family members, and/or health care professionals in predefined case scenarios by portraying realistic behaviours, interactions and patient reactions that are specifically needed for the course teaching and examinations.Review and understand the assigned simulation criteria to deliver a live simulation that is realistic and that is required to meet the need of the specific course teaching, student practice or examination.Simulate scenarios consistently for each class practice,
teaching or examination to ensure student practice & learning is delivered consistently the same across student learning and examinations.Use simulation technology as required for the simulation.Meet with course instructors, participate in training and orientation sessions to prepare for simulations, to learn of the specific needs of the simulation learning and of any technology use needed.Memorize scripts for the simulation, adhering to the simulation outlined.Provide unbiased and constructive feedback to students, when instructed, and as set out during SP orientation and training sessions.Participate in patient physical examinations as required.Participate in Records Custodian training and remain current with record keeping practices, policies and procedures (both BCIT and FOIPOP).Undertake related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade for this position.QualificationsDefinition:The qualifications section for this job was developed using the approved job evaluation plan, agreed to between the BCGEU and BCIT.
