Job Title:Finance ManagerReporting to:Chief Executive Officer (CEO)Location:HalifaxHours: 4 days a week (28 hours)Salary: Starting salary £36,400 Pro rataAbout Happy DaysWe are a community-based charity supporting people experiencing homelessness and crisis. Our services include supported housing (68 bedsits), a winter shelter, a crisis drop‑in service, food provision including a social supermarket and a Cycle Shop. We are committed to delivering high‑quality, person‑centred support that helps individuals rebuild their lives.The community at Happy Days is at the very sharp end of deprivation and multiple disadvantage. We support people who are experiencing drug and alcohol addiction, mental health and health inequality, all which often a direct result of complex childhood trauma.Purpose of the RoleThe Finance Manager will lead the financial management of the organisation, ensuring strong financial control, compliance, and strategic insight across a diverse range of services.This role is critical in supporting sustainable service delivery, managing multiple income streams (grants, contracts, rental income, and trading activity), and enabling informed decision‑making at senior level.Key ResponsibilitiesProduce timely and accuratemonthly management accountswith explicit commentaryLead theannual budgeting and forecasting processMonitor organisational performance against budget and provide variance analysisPrepare financial reports for theSenior Leadership Team and Board of TrusteesManagerestricted and unrestricted funds,
ensuring compliance with funder requirementsOversee income streams including:Rental income from supported housingGrants and contractsDonations and fundraising incomeSocial supermarket trading incomeBike shop subsidiary accountingEnsure accurate income recognition and reportingHousing & Service Finance SupportOversee financial processes related tohousing stock (68 units)including rent accounting and arrears reportingSupport operational managers withbudget management and cost controlCrisis/drop‑in servicesFood and Bike Shop retail‑style operationsCompliance, Audit & ControlsLead the preparation forannual audit/independent examinationEnsure compliance with:Charity Commission requirementsRelevant accounting standards (e.G. SORP)Maintain and improvefinancial controls and proceduresOversee VAT and other regulatory obligations (particularly for trading activity)Accountable for Finance Policy, process and SOP development and oversightStrategic & Leadership SupportAct as a key adviser to theCEO and TrusteesContribute to organisational strategy, financial planning, and sustainabilitySupport business planning and funding bidsTeam & SystemsLine manages Finance OfficerPayroll, HMRC, NESTMaintain and develop financial systems and reporting toolsPerson SpecificationExperience in afinance role within charity, housing, or not‑for‑profit sectorStrong knowledge ofmanagement accounting and budgetingExperience ofmulti‑income stream organisationsUnderstanding ofrestricted funding and fund accountingAbility to communicate financial information to non‑financial stakeholdersStrong Excel and financial systems skillsExperience of SAGE accountingProfessional qualification ( ACCA, CIMA, ACA ) or part‑qualifiedExperience withhousing finance / supported accommodationKnowledge ofCharity SORPExperience managingVAT in mixed‑income organisationsKey AttributesCommercially aware but values‑drivenDetail‑oriented with strong analytical skillsAble to operate both strategically and hands‑onCollaborative and supportive of frontline services#J-18808-Ljbffr
