Senior Credit Risk Advisor – Commodity Trading / Metals & Mining
Location: Montreal, Quebec
Work Model: Hybrid – Minimum 3 days per week onsite
Contract: 3 months initially, with potential extension into 2027
Language: Robust English required; French is preferred

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Credit Risk Advisor to support credit risk analysis, portfolio management, and commercial decision-making within a commodity trading / metals & mining environment .
The ideal candidate will have strong experience assessing counterparty credit risk, managing credit exposure, conducting financial analysis, and partnering with commercial, finance, legal, and risk teams to develop effective credit solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze financial and qualitative information on new and existing counterparties to determine credit ratings, credit limits, payment terms, and appropriate credit solutions .
- Manage an assigned counterparty portfolio, including credit reviews, exposure monitoring, onboarding, credit blocks, limit availability, and credit alerts.
- Assess complex transactions and recommend appropriate credit structures, terms, security arrangements, and risk mitigations.
- Partner with Sales, Marketing, Commercial, Finance, Legal, and Business Units on credit-related decisions and strategic initiatives.
- Work with credit insurers, brokers, banks, and other risk teams on credit risk mitigation.
- Monitor portfolio exposure, financial performance, market intelligence, adverse credit events, and emerging risks.
- Identify and escalate potential defaults, non-payment risks, limit breaches, and other credit events.
- Prepare and validate reports covering credit exposure, AR aging,
sales forecasts, excess exposure, and portfolio performance .
- Prepare presentations and analytical materials for credit committees and senior stakeholders .
- Ensure credit activities comply with governance frameworks, policies, and reporting requirements.
- Utilize credit risk and accounting systems, including SAP and S&P; Capital IQ .
- Drive process improvement, standardization, automation, and credit reporting enhancements.
- Support development of credit dashboards, excess reporting, and other credit risk tools.
- Participate in cross-functional and business transformation projects.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics , or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in Credit Risk, Credit Analysis, Financial Analysis, or Portfolio Management.
- Experience within a commodity trading, metals & mining, energy, or similar B2B trading environment strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of counterparty credit risk and financial statement analysis .
- Experience with trade finance, trade credit insurance, parental/corporate guarantees, and credit risk mitigation .
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to make and communicate sound credit recommendations.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with SAP and S&P; Capital IQ (CIQ) .
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong English communication skills; French is an asset/preferred .
