Senior Financial Analyst
Role Details
- Job Title: Senior Financial Analyst
- Work Mode: Primarily remote
- Location: Alberta, Canada
- Contract: 1 Year (Up to 18 months Extension)
- Work Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:15 AM–4:30 PM Alberta time, with a 1-hour lunch
- Travel: Rare onsite meetings or work sessions may be required based on business needs. Reasonable notice will be provided.
- Background Check: Enhanced/Level 2 clearance, including basic clearance and credit check.
Responsibilities
- Perform complex account reconciliations, financial analysis, and journal entry preparation.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including month-end and year-end activities.
- Review financial transactions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable policies and standards.
- Investigate and resolve accounting, reporting, and financial system issues.
- Monitor and analyze accounts receivable, revenue, payroll-related transactions, and inter-unit accounts.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation, reconciliations, and working papers.
- Identify financial risks, control gaps, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Develop and maintain financial procedures, documentation, and reporting tools.
- Provide advice on accounting standards, financial policies, legislation, and financial procedures.
- Support financial system enhancements, process improvements, and operational initiatives.
- Work independently, manage competing priorities, and apply sound qualified judgement.
Must-Haves
Work Experience
- 8 years: Demonstrated experience performing data analysis techniques to profile, validate, reconcile, troubleshoot, and analyze complex datasets.
- 8 years: Work experience creating and using advanced Excel skills such as Pivot table, VLOOKUP etc.
- 8 years:
Experience using accounting principles and accounting standards or equivalent.
- 8 years: Experience with and knowledge of financial reporting ensuring the accuracy and reliability of financial statements, and using Microsoft Excel.
- 8 years: Experience working with SharePoint online, including working with spreadsheets accessed simultaneously by multiple users while still being able to add, modify and filter.
Nice-to-Haves
Education
- CPA designation.
- Relevant post-secondary education in the areas of business administration, accounting or finance. Acceptable education includes degrees, diplomas and certificates.
Work Experience
- 8 years: Experience applying financial audit, and/or financial controls, and/or financial reconciliation, and/or financial systems governance principles to large-scale data migration, data conversion, or ERP implementation projects.
- 8 years: Experience using ERP systems such as SAP.
- 8 years: Experience working in accounting systems creating processes, managing budgets, and internal controls.
- 8 years: The ability to accurately calculate, post, correct, and manage accounting figures and financial records.
Other Requirements
- Candidate must provide their own computer and required equipment/software.
- The computer must support Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD); Windows is preferred.
- Most work will be performed using Microsoft Teams, Excel, and SharePoint.
- Mandatory training will include privacy, security/cybersecurity, information management, and workplace-related training.
- Resume must clearly demonstrate the required experience within the specific jobs/projects where it was gained.
- Employment dates must be provided in MMM/YYYY to MMM/YYYY format.
- Three professional references must be provided, with the most recent reference listed first.
