Family / Civil Litigation Associate Lawyer

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Associate Lawyer to join our team in Kingston, Ontario. This opportunity is ideally suited for a new call or lawyer with approximately 1-2 years of experience who is looking to develop a rewarding practice in both Family Law and Civil Litigation.

Working closely with experienced lawyers, you will have the chance to gain hands-on experience, assume increasing responsibility, and build your advocacy and client management skills in a supportive environment that encourages professional growth.

About the Role

This position offers exposure to a broad range of family law and civil litigation matters, including:

Family Law

- Separation agreements
- Divorce proceedings
- Child and spousal support matters
- Parenting and decision-making responsibility issues
- Marriage and cohabitation agreements
- Property and pension division
- Adoption and child protection matters

Civil Litigation

- Commercial disputes
- Real estate disputes
- Construction matters
- Insurance-related litigation
- General civil litigation matters

Successful candidates will work alongside senior counsel on a variety of files, gaining valuable courtroom, negotiation, client service, and advocacy experience.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will possess:

- Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- A new call to the Ontario Bar or 1-2 years of legal practice experience, preferably with exposure to family law
- Strong written and oral advocacy skills, including the ability to draft clear,



persuasive legal documents and communicate effectively with clients and opposing counsel
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with clients during challenging and emotionally charged circumstances
- Sound judgment, professionalism, and a client-focused approach to legal service
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple files and meet competing deadlines
- Attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced workplace
- The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with lawyers, clerks, and support staff
- A demonstrated interest in family law, dispute resolution, and client advocacy
- A willingness to attend court, mediations, and client meetings, and to assume increasing responsibility for files as experience develops
- Proficiency with legal technology, document management systems, and standard office software
