D365 F&O; Lead Developer

Summary We are seeking an experienc ed D365 Finance & Operations Lead Develop er to join our client company in a full-time, direct, remo te role. This person will serve as the senior-most hands-on developer and technical authority across our D365 F&O; landscape.

This role owns environment management, upgrade planning and execution, and offshore development oversight, while continuing to perform senior-level design, development, and support work as the technical backbone of the team. The ideal candidate blends deep technical expertise with the ability to plan, delegate, and guide a distributed development team, ensuring the platform remains stable, current, and aligned with business needs.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Task Management

- Lead and coordinate the D365 F&O; development team, assigning, prioritizing, and tracking development tasks across sprints and support queues
- Own task planning and work breakdown for development initiatives, ensuring realistic estimates, clear ownership, and on-time delivery
- Review code and designs produced by team members, enforcing coding standards, best practices, and reusability
- Act as the primary technical point of contact between business analysts, functional consultants, infrastructure teams, and the development team
- Mentor developers, provide technical guidance, and support their growth in X++ and D365 F&O; architecture

Environment Management

- Own the full lifecycle of D365 F&O; environments (Development, Build/Golden Config, UAT, Sandbox, Production), including provisioning, refreshes, and decommissioning via LCS (Lifecycle Services)
- Manage individual developer (Dev) box environments end-to-end, including creating, restoring, and upgrading Dev boxes for the development team
- Support the planned migration of Lifecycle Services (LCS) workplace and support management to the Power Platform admin center, targeted for next year; hands-on experience with this transition is a strong plus
- Plan and coordinate environment refresh schedules to keep lower environments aligned with Production data and configuration
- Manage database refreshes, environment access, storage/capacity monitoring, and environment health checks
- Troubleshoot environment-level issues (deployment failures, service outages, package/model conflicts) and coordinate with Microsoft support as needed
- Maintain documentation of environment topology, configurations, and change history

Upgrade Management

- Plan,



coordinate, and execute platform and application updates, including One Version service updates and Quality Updates
- Assess the impact of upcoming updates on existing customizations and integrations, and build mitigation/regression test plans
- Manage the code merge and conflict resolution process during updates and platform upgrades
- Coordinate upgrade timelines with business stakeholders to minimize disruption, including scheduling of downtime windows
- Own post-upgrade validation, regression testing coordination, and issue triage

Offshore Development Management

- Manage and coordinate a distributed/offshore development team, ensuring alignment on priorities, timelines, and quality standards across time zones
- Establish and maintain effective handoff processes, status reporting, and communication cadences between onshore and offshore teams
- Set up and enforce development standards, branching strategies, and review checkpoints to maintain consistency across distributed contributors
- Identify and resolve delivery risks, blockers, or quality gaps arising from offshore work streams

Core Development & Support (Senior Developer Responsibilities)

- Support Operations: Take ownership of day-to-day support issues, triage and resolve technical problems quickly, and ensure minimal disruption to business operations
- Design, develop, test, and deploy custom solutions in Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations using X++ and related frameworks
- Create Functional Requirements Documents (FRD), Functional Design Documents (FDD), and Technical Design Documents (TDD) for development projects
- Extend and customize standard D365 F&O; modules including Finance, Supply Chain, Procurement, Order to Cash, and Inventory as needed
- Develop for multi-entity, multi-currency, and intercompany transaction flows across legal entities
- Develop and maintain integrations using OData, REST APIs, batch jobs, F&O; Business Events, and Azure Logic Apps, connecting D365 F&O; to EDI and middleware platforms (e.g., Boomi) for trading partner transaction processing
- Dual Write Expertise: Understand and manage Dual Write integration between D365 F&O; and Dataverse/CE, ensuring data consistency and performance




- Support release management activities including code reviews, build pipelines, and production deployments
- Technical Troubleshooting: Quickly diagnose and resolve technical issues, working closely with developers and infrastructure teams
- Development Partnership: Collaborate with analysts to design and deliver customizations, extensions, and integrations

Required Skills & Qualifications

- 10+ years of extensive experience developing on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (AX/D365FO), including prior experience in a lead developer capacity
- Strong proficiency in X++, object-oriented programming concepts, and extension-based development
- Experience authoring functional and technical design documentation (FRD, FDD, TDD) for development projects
- Proven hands-on experience managing D365 F&O; environments through LCS, including Dev box provisioning, refreshes, deployments, and environment troubleshooting
- Demonstrated experience planning and executing D365 F&O; platform/One Version upgrades, including code merge and regression management
- Experience leading or coordinating offshore/distributed development teams, including task delegation, code review, and cross-time-zone communication
- Hands-on experience with integrations, data entities, and services in D365 F&O;
- Experience using F&O; Business Events and Azure Logic Apps to drive EDI and integration transaction flows
- Preferred: experience with European regulatory and compliance integrations in D365 F&O;, including statutory e-invoicing and government tax authority integrations (e.g., Greece myDATA, electronic invoicing via the Globalization Studio, VAT and statutory reporting, Intrastat, SAF-T, Making Tax Digital)
- Preferred: familiarity with third-party solutions integrated with D365 F&O;, such as DocCentric (document output), ProShip (shipping), Adyen (payments), and Vertex (tax)
- Proven experience with Dual Write, Power Platform, and Dataverse
- Experience working with Azure DevOps including version control, pipelines, release management, and work-item/task tracking
- Strong task and resource planning skills, with the ability to estimate, prioritize, and track work across multiple concurrent initiatives
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience presenting to both technical and business audiences
- Experience working in agile environments and with cross-functional, geographically distributed teams
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and lead in a quick-paced environment
