Job Title
Senior Structured Cabling Technician
Job Grade Level:
Senior
Purpose:
OSP Fibre Splicer Technicians are responsible for installation/management of structured cabling, coaxial cabling, wireless access points, network hardware, telephony systems, terminating, and testing.
Responsibilities:
· Lead the Installation of large- and small-scale structured cabling projects that can include, coaxial cabling, wireless access points, network hardware, telephony systems, security/ access control and CCTV cabling, Audio Visual Systems, inside plant fiber optic splicing, terminating, and testing.
· Competently interpret floor plan layouts and work closely with Helix IT project managers, and projects coordinators as designated by management to proactively resolve potential issues, questions, or concerns between the floor plans and the actual site conditions.
· Competently read, understand, and complete the work scopes. Be able to discern between committed work and extra work or change orders. Track, document and relay to project management or project coordinators any additional work or change orders over and above the original scope of work.
· Conduct routine testing on all equipment and inspect for wear and damage.
· Use of tools, OTDR, Power Meters, and Copper Test Equipment to test, analyze, and troubleshoot fiber and copper Cables
· Maintain safe working conditions within the company by ensuring that all associates and contractors follow Health and Safety policies and procedures.
· Supervise and mentor junior and Intermediate technicians
· Ensure time and expense forms are completed and submitted according to company policy and procedure
· Safely drive and maneuver vehicles into tight spaces and easements.
· Analyze test results and can troubleshoot and correct any faults or defects.
· Perform other duties as assigned
Experience and training:
· Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience.
· Manufacture or Industry Training such as: Commscope, Belden, Panduit and Bicsi accreditation an asset.
· Must have a valid Driver’s License (Class 5) with clean abstract
· Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check
· Knowledge of Kantech and Verkada CCTV and Access Control products would be an asset.
· May be required to perform additional security clearance check and be subject to random drug and alcohol testing
· Experience with industrial/civil work is an asset.
· Good computer skills
Telecom Copper Experience would be an asset.
· Maintain accurate records through documenting installations, services, and repairs
· Maintain a secure work environment by following company policies/procedures and adhering to all Federal and Provincial safety standards
· Bucket truck knowledge and experience would be an asset
· Valid Safety Certifications are preferred (Aerial Lift and Fall Protection, Confined Space, H2S Alive, First Aid/CPR)
· Must have a basic set of hand tools and safety wear, i.e., steel toe boots.
· Possess effective communication skills; both verbal and written.
· Bring a positive attitude with an aptitude and/or willingness to learn and teach.
· Ability to work as a collaborative team member/leader or as an individual contributor in a demanding environment.
· Display a strong work ethic with an emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
· Provide an exceptional customer experience in all interactions, communicating in a courteous and professional manner
· Ability to hit the ground running and work independently.
Working Conditions:
· Walking, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping.
· Physically able to perform all aspects of job in varying weather conditions (climb ladders, medium to heavy lifting 5 to 50 pounds)
· Available for evening, weekend, and holiday hours as required.
Work outdoors and indoors, occasionally in inclement weather
Must be able to TRAVEL
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $30.00-$45.00 per hour
