Senior Python GenAI Backend Engineer – Healthcare Conversational AI

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Python GenAI Backend Engineer to join a five-person engineering team building a production-grade healthcare conversational GenAI platform. The technology stack centers on Python 3.12+, FastAPI, and Google ADK 2.0 for multi-agent orchestration and structured LLM outputs, deployed on Microsoft Azure .

This role focuses on backend service development, GenAI workflow engineering, secure healthcare integrations, and operational ownership of patient-facing conversational experiences.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend APIs and services using Python 3.12+ and FastAPI .
- Build, deploy, and operate multi-agent GenAI workflows using Google ADK 2.0 .
- Integrate and optimize LLM providers and GenAI platforms including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google .
- Support and enhance workflows using LangGraph, LangChain, and PydanticAI , ensuring interoperability across toolchains.
- Implement RAG, prompt engineering, structured output validation, and AI guardrails to deliver safe and reliable AI behavior.
- Develop domain-specific task handlers for healthcare workflows such as care tasks, medication management, and scheduling .
- Integrate conversational services with clinical and healthcare systems as required.
- Leverage Azure services including Cosmos DB, App Configuration, Key Vault, Event Hubs, and Application Insights .
- Implement secure APIs using JWT/OAuth and industry-standard security practices.
- Ensure appropriate protection of PHI and sensitive healthcare data .
- Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, code reviews, production support, and incident response.
- Develop and maintain automated tests using pytest .




- Support CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and containerized production deployments .
- Contribute to observability, performance optimization, reliability, and continuous improvement of the platform.

Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional software development experience.
- Strong hands-on production experience with Python and asynchronous application development.
- Strong experience with FastAPI or comparable Python asynchronous frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with Google ADK 2.0 for multi-agent orchestration and structured LLM outputs.
- Experience with LLM orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph, LangChain, and PydanticAI .
- Strong knowledge of prompt engineering, RAG, structured outputs, validation, and AI safety/guardrail patterns .
- Experience integrating OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google LLM services.
- Practical experience with Azure , particularly Cosmos DB, Key Vault, and App Configuration.
- Experience with Docker, CI/CD, GitHub Actions , and containerized production environments.
- Understanding of event-driven architectures and workflow engines .
- Strong knowledge of JWT, OAuth, API security, and secure application development .
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership and deliver in a small, fast-paced engineering setting .

Preferred Qualifications
- Healthcare technology experience, including HIPAA, HL7/FHIR, and Epic integrations .
- Experience with PydanticAI or comparable structured-output validation frameworks.
- Familiarity with OpenTelemetry and modern observability platforms.
- Experience working with healthcare conversational AI or patient-facing applications.
- Exposure to React and TypeScript for occasional full-stack contributions.
- Experience building production-grade GenAI applications with strong reliability, security, and governance requirements.
