Senior Superintendent

Location: Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Ontario Company: General Contractor — ICI (Industrial, Commercial, Institutional) Sector Employment Type: Full time, Permanent

About the Chance

We are a well-established General Contractor delivering complex ICI projects across the GTA. We're seeking a Senior Superintendent to lead field operations on our projects, mentor the next generation of superintendents, and act as a trusted operational partner to our Preconstruction and Project Management teams. This is a leadership role suited to someone who thrives on collaboration, takes pride in building people as much as buildings, and wants to help shape the future of our field operations team.

Who You Are

- A construction professional with a stable career history in structured ICI general contracting organizations in the GTA
- Approachable, collaborative, and team-oriented — you build strong relationships with project managers, trades, consultants, and clients rather than operating in a silo
- An entrepreneurial leader who genuinely enjoys training, mentoring, and developing junior and intermediate superintendents
- A hands-on problem-solver who can look at a set of drawings and immediately start thinking through how to build it
- Comfortable being client-facing and representing the company in high-stakes settings, including project interviews and pursuits

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Execution

- Oversee day-to-day field operations on ICI construction projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, on budget, and to quality standards
- Assess project scope and drawings to determine the most effective and buildable construction approach

- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, identifying the optimal sequence of work to drive productivity and minimize risk
- Proactively identify constructability issues, schedule risks, and site logistics challenges, and drive solutions in coordination with the PM team

Preconstruction & Business Development

- Take an active role in Preconstruction, providing field-level input on constructability, sequencing, phasing, and site logistics
- Participate in and help lead client interviews and project pursuits, representing the company's field capabilities and track record
- Collaborate with Estimating and Preconstruction teams to ensure schedules, means and methods, and site strategies are realistic and competitive

Team Leadership & Mentorship

- Train, mentor, and develop junior and intermediate superintendents, building bench strength within the field operations team
- Foster a collaborative site culture that reflects strong partnership with the PM team — not siloed decision-making
- Set the standard for professionalism, safety leadership, and accountability on site

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

- Partner closely with Project Managers as a true teammate throughout the project lifecycle, from preconstruction through closeout
- Coordinate effectively with subtrades,

consultants, clients, and inspectors to keep projects moving forward
- Communicate proactively and transparently with internal teams and external stakeholders

Qualifications

- Minimum 10 years of progressive superintendent experience within the ICI construction sector, ideally within structured, established general contracting organizations in the GTA
- Proven experience leading large or complex ICI projects from Preconstruction through completion
- Demonstrated experience mentoring, training, and developing junior field staff
- Strong understanding of scheduling principles and sequencing (experience with scheduling software such as MS Project or Primavera is an asset)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust across teams and with clients
- Comfortable participating in client-facing meetings and project interviews/pursuits
- Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is an asset but not required with sufficient equivalent experience
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel between GTA project sites
- Relevant safety certifications (e.g., OHSA Working at Heights, First Aid/CPR) considered an asset

What We Offer

- Competitive compensation package commensurate with experience
- Opportunity to lead marquee ICI projects across the GTA
- A collaborative, team-first culture that values field-office partnership
- A genuine platform to mentor and shape the next generation of superintendents
- Long-term career growth within a stable, established organization
