Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Sheet Metal Technician – Layout to join our fabrication team. This role is critical in the production process — you will be responsible for accurately reading drawings, performing precise layouts, and preparing sheet metal for fabrication. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically skilled, and experienced with layout tools and sheet metal machinery.

Responsibilities

- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications to determine exact dimensions and requirements.
- Perform accurate layouts on sheet metal using layout tools, scribes, squares, dividers, and measuring instruments.
- Calculate and mark bend lines, cut lines, hole locations, and seam positions with high precision.
- Set up and operate sheet metal equipment including brakes, shears, bandsaws, lasers (if applicable), and other machinery.
- Work closely with fabricators and installers to ensure parts are produced accurately and efficiently.
- Verify dimensions and quality throughout the layout and fabrication process.
- Assist with general shop duties including material handling,



equipment maintenance, and shop organization.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

Requirements / Qualifications

- Minimum 3-4 years of experience in sheet metal layout and fabrication.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Excellent understanding of sheet metal patterns, bends, allowances, and fabrication techniques.
- Proficient with layout tools, measuring instruments, and shop machinery (brakes, shears, bandsaws, etc.).
- Basic welding knowledge is considered an asset.
- Strong mathematical and spatial reasoning skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and standing for extended periods.
- Valid driver’s license is preferred.
