Chop Hand & Maintenance Technician (with Driving Duties)

Job Summary
We are looking for a practical, dependable, and hands-on Shop Hand & Maintenance team member to join our facility in Cambridge, ON. In this versatile role, you will assist in day-to-day shop floor operations, conduct routine mechanical upkeep and machinery repairs, manage parts inventory/tool organization, and perform local pickups and deliveries using company vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Machinery Maintenance & Repair:
- Perform routine preventative maintenance, lubrication, and mechanical servicing on shop equipment and machinery.
- Diagnose mechanical issues, disassemble equipment, replace worn parts/bearings/belts, and assist with basic mechanical assembly.
- Safely use hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment to perform minor repairs and modifications.
- Shop Hand & Facility Support:
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas across the manufacturing and assembly floor.
- Stage raw materials, manage hardware and tool cribs, and assist technicians and builders as needed.
- Safely load, unload, and move equipment, tooling, and materials using pallet jacks and forklifts.
- Driving & Material Runs:
- Operate company vehicles to pick up machine parts, hardware, and raw materials from local vendors and suppliers.
- Deliver components, finished assemblies,
or tools to regional project sites across Southwestern Ontario.
- Safely secure, strap, and protect all cargo during transit.
- Perform basic pre-trip circle checks on company vehicles to ensure road safety.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Driver’s Licence: Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s Licence with a clean driving abstract.
- Mechanical Experience: 1–3+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical repair, equipment maintenance, or working in a manufacturing/machine shop workplace.
- Technical Aptitude: Comfortable reading basic technical drawings/manuals and skilled in using power tools, diagnostic tools, and measuring instruments.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and stand, bend, and move comfortably throughout active shop shifts.
- Reliability: Strong work ethic, punctuality, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude.
- Safety Awareness: Commitment to safe shop practices and Ontario OHSA workplace regulations.
Preferred Assets
- Valid Forklift Operator Certification (Counterbalance).
- Familiarity with pneumatic, hydraulic, or basic electrical machine components.
Compensation & Work Schedule
- Shift: Monday to Friday (Day Shift)
- Wage: $22.00 – $28.00 per hour (commensurate with mechanical experience)
