Job Overview The Automotive Shop Foreman / Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily workflow and productivity of the service shop. This position coordinates technicians, manages work in progress, supports accurate and efficient repairs, and works closely with Service Advisors to ensure vehicles are completed properly and on time.
The role requires strong automotive knowledge, leadership skills, organization, and the ability to keep technicians productive while maintaining a high standard of workmanship and customer service.
Responsibilities
- Manage and direct the technicians throughout the day
- Control workflow and which vehicles enter the shop
- Assign the right job to the right technician
- Monitor billed hours versus available technician hours
- Identify lost production time quickly
- Keep technicians productive and moving between jobs
- Coordinate with Service Consultants on priorities and promised completion times
- Manage diagnostic work and prevent vehicles from tying up bays unnecessarily
- Review technician workload and capacity throughout the day
- Handle technician concerns, conflicts, and performance issues
- Ensure technicians provide clear notes, findings, and recommendations
- Maintain communication between the front counter and the shop
- Help prevent overbooking or underbooking
- Track comebacks, delays, parts issues, and other production problems
Primary Goal The primary goal of the Shop Foreman / Production Manager is to maximize shop productivity and technician efficiency while maintaining high-quality repairs, robust communication, and on-time vehicle completion. Pay: $27.00-$45.00 per hour
