We are seeking a motivated and safety-conscious Shunt Truck Driver to join our logistics team. In this vital role, you will operate a specialized shunt truck to efficiently move trailers and equipment within our facility in Startford. Your expertise in truck driving, route management, and equipment handling will ensure smooth yard operations and timely deliveries.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate shunt trucks equipped with manual transmissions to move trailers within the yard and loading areas
- Connect and disconnect trailers from tractors or other vehicles using appropriate coupling techniques
- Conduct routine inspections of shunt truck and trailers to ensure proper functioning and safety compliance
- Manage route driving within the facility to position trailers for loading, unloading, or transfer to designated locations
- Use forklifts or other material handling equipment as needed for loading or securing freight
- Maintain accurate documentation of trailer movements, load status, and inspection logs
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and ensure a secure work environment
- Collaborate with warehouse staff, drivers, and management to coordinate trailer movements efficiently
- Assist with general yard maintenance and organization to promote a clean and safe workspace
Experience
- Proven experience operating commercial trucks with manual transmission is preferred but not required.
- Prior truck driving experience in freight transportation or warehouse yard operations is highly preferred
- Experience with route driving within a facility or between multiple locations is beneficial
- Knowledge of safety regulations related to commercial driving and yard operations is essential
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with Air Break endorsement is required
- Strong understanding of load securing procedures and trailer coupling/uncoupling techniques
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent Pay: $50,000.00-$650,000.00 per year
