About PST Technology

PST Technology is a specialized provider of crew management and workforce software for the rail and transportation industry. With over 30 years of experience, PST delivers mission-critical solutions for crew scheduling, regulatory compliance, time and attendance, and operational workforce management to rail operators across North America — including Canadian Class 1 railways such as Canadian National and Canadian Pacific.

The platform manages the workforce of more than 100,000 employees across PST's client base. It is a trusted system that customers depend on daily to keep operations running safely and on schedule. PST sits within the Supply Chain and Logistics vertical of the Valstone portfolio.

About Valstone

Valstone is an industrial software conglomerate that acquires and operates mission-critical software businesses across agriculture, logistics, food processing, bulk materials, and manufacturing. With 20 acquisitions completed across Canada, the USA, and the UK, Valstone takes a long-term, buy-and-hold approach — building businesses rather than exiting them.

Valstone is part of the Valsef Group, a Montreal-based holding company. Sister entities include Valsoft (130+ acquisitions, $3B+ valuation), Permanent Corp, Valnet, and Valsef Capital.

About the Role PST Technology is hiring a Software Engineer to join our Simulation team, which builds railroad simulation applications used for training and operational analytics. You will work across a mature codebase and current development,

contributing to systems that model real-world rail operations with physical and spatial accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and extend railroad simulation applications used for both training environments and operational analytics.
- Improve and modernize legacy systems while contributing to new feature development.
- Collaborate with a distributed team across the US, Canada, and internationally to design, build, and ship software.
- Apply mathematics, spatial geometry, and physics to model realistic rail behavior and environments.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly across engineering, product, and customer-facing contexts.

Required Technical Skills

- Core stack — C#/.NET, C++, and Unity:
- Additional — Mathematics, spatial geometry, physics, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applied to simulation work.
- Additional — Python for supporting tooling and analysis.
- Additional — Comfort working with AI software development tools.

Candidate Profile

- A fast learner who can ramp up on unfamiliar systems and domains quickly.
- A strong technical communicator, able to explain and absorb complex concepts efficiently.
- Comfortable balancing continuous improvement of legacy code with greenfield development.
- Self-directed when working independently and equally effective collaborating with a remote team.

Growth & Advancement We invest in engineers who want to grow. There is meaningful room to advance, especially for those who:

- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical customers.
- Consistently deliver projects ahead of schedule.
- Learn actively from teammates and help teammates grow in return.
