Sunrise Skylights is Ottawa's dedicated skylight specialist, providing premium skylight, roof window, and SUN TUNNEL® installations throughout Ottawa and the surrounding region.

We are currently seeking a motivated and reliable Seasonal Construction Laborer to join our team during the active construction season. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in doing things properly, and is ready to contribute to a busy residential construction crew.

No skylight experience is required. We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced installers and receive hands-on training while assisting with skylight installations, roofing, insulation, interior finishing, and other residential construction work.

This is a full-time seasonal position intended to continue for as long as weather conditions, temperatures, project demand, and our seasonal workload reasonably permit. Depending on the weather, work may continue through November and into the first weeks of December.

Employees who demonstrate strong performance, reliability, safe work practices, professionalism, and overall suitability during the season may be assessed for the opportunity to return when regular operations resume in the spring.

As a Seasonal Construction Laborer, you will be an important supporting member of our installation crew. You will be expected to contribute to the quality and efficiency of our projects while demonstrating the professionalism, attention to detail, and pride of workmanship that set Sunrise Skylights apart.

Responsibilities

- Assist with skylight, roof window, and SUN TUNNEL® installations
- Assist with roofing, flashing, waterproofing, and exterior construction work
- Assist with framing modifications and structural preparation
- Work in residential attic spaces and confined attic areas
- Assist with attic insulation work, including Loose Fill Blown Fibre Glass
- Assist with insulating skylight and light shafts
- Assist with air sealing and vapour sealing




- Assist with maintaining proper soffit breathing and attic ventilation
- Assist with drywall installation, repairs, patching, sanding, priming, painting, and interior finishing
- Load, unload, carry, and organize tools, equipment, and construction materials
- Assist with jobsite setup and teardown
- Set up ladders, fall protection systems, and safety equipment as trained and directed
- Protect customer homes, furnishings, landscaping, and belongings during projects
- Maintain clean, organized, and professional jobsites
- Assist with shop, warehouse, vehicle, and material organization when required
- Properly care for company tools and equipment
- Learn installation procedures, construction techniques, and product knowledge from experienced team members
- Follow company health and safety policies, procedures, and best practices
- Follow instructions and communicate effectively with other members of the crew
- Represent Sunrise Skylights professionally when interacting with customers
- Perform other reasonable construction and support duties as required

Requirements

- Ability and willingness to safely work at heights
- Ability to work in residential attic spaces and other physically restricted areas
- Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver construction materials, tools, and equipment
- Valid Ontario Working at Heights certification, or willingness to obtain required certification before performing applicable work
- Appropriate protective safety footwear suitable for construction and sloped-roof work
- Protective footwear must provide the required impact and puncture protection while also providing secure fit, support, and appropriate traction for the work being performed
- Ability to work outdoors in changing weather and temperature conditions
- Ability to reliably attend scheduled shifts and arrive at designated work locations on time

Employment Details

Position: Seasonal Construction Laborer

Employment Type: Full-Time, Seasonal

Compensation: $20.00 per hour

Location: Ottawa and surrounding service area

Reports To: Owner

Probationary Period: Three (3) months

This position is intended to support Sunrise Skylights through the active construction season.

There is no predetermined end date.



Employment is expected to continue for as long as weather conditions, temperatures, customer demand, project requirements, and seasonal workload reasonably permit. Depending on seasonal conditions, work may continue through November and into the first weeks of December.

Hours will vary based on project requirements, weather conditions, and seasonal demand. The position may provide up to approximately 44 hours per week during periods of full workload, but no minimum number of hours is guaranteed.

As the season progresses, hours may be reduced and individual workdays may be delayed, rescheduled, or cancelled because of rain, snow, ice, high winds, cold temperatures, reduced daylight, unsafe roof conditions, customer scheduling, material availability, or other operational considerations.

Flexibility is important, as daily start times, work locations, and weekly hours may vary throughout the season.

The Seasonal Construction Laborer will report directly to the Owner and will receive hands-on instruction and daily direction while working alongside experienced members of the Sunrise Skylights team.

Spring Return Assessment

At or near the conclusion of the seasonal term, Sunrise Skylights may assess the Employee's overall performance and suitability for potential re-employment when regular operations resume in the upcoming spring season.
