About the Role

Members of the Special Constable Pool at the Niagara Regional Police Service provide coverage for full-time Special Constables during periods of temporary absence or to provide support during peak periods. Special Constables must be available to work 8-hour and 12-hour shifts including over nights, weekends, and holidays. Hours and continuity of work may vary based on operational needs.

Responsibilities

- Searching, guarding, and controlling prisoners
- Providing security at premises or places occupied or utilized to house prisoners or operate as Courts
- Assisting with court administrative duties and coordinating court documentation and activities
- Serving summons, subpoenas, court orders, and probation orders
- Executing Warrants of Committal within Niagara
- Transporting prisoners within Ontario

Qualifications

- Two (2) year college diploma (e.g., Police Foundations) plus a minimum of one (1) year pre-job experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- First Aid/CPT Certificate - Level 'C' (must be from an approved First Aid/CPR provider)
- Valid Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) Certificate

Required Skills

- Demonstrated sound judgment and emotional stability
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with the public
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information




- Basic computer familiarity and data entry skills
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License

Salary: $52.53/hr
