JBH is currently recruiting for a Specialist, Health Information to join our team.
POSITION SUMMARY The Health Information Specialist (HIS) is responsible for the efficient collection, coding, abstracting, and submission of health information data for the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), the Ontario Ministry of Health, and the Hospital. Utilizing CIHI standards and guidelines,
the incumbent will code and abstract data for NACRS Emergency, Day Surgery, Oncology Clinic encounters, and/or DAD Acute Inpatient encounters.
The successful candidate is a graduate of an accredited Health Information Management program and is certified with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA). Experience in ICD-10-CA coding and computerized abstracting using MED2020 is preferred.
The successful candidate will be expected to perform other duties, responsibilities, and projects as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate of an accredited Health Information Management Program.
- Certification with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA), in good standing, is required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent coding and abstracting experience.
- Proficiency in electronic abstracting systems and Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
- Experience with Epic, Med2020 (WinRECS), and 3terra is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated team-oriented approach with strong collaboration, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent change management skills, with the ability to adapt to evolving priorities and support organizational transformation initiatives.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with a demonstrated ability to prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to reliable attendance, punctuality, availability, and performance.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
