This role is responsible for the design, prototyping, research, validation, and documentation of current and existing hardware with minimal supervision. The Senior Hardware Designer is expected to design hardware with reliability, manufacturability, and regulatory compliance in mind, and to collaborate closely with firmware, compliance, and manufacturing teams.Duties and ResponsibilitiesProduct Development & Technical LeadershipDevelop hardware designs in accordance with established procedures and the Product Development Process (PDP)Provide technical leadership on hardware projects, including design planning and schedulingProvide technical guidance and design oversight to other hardware designersAssist in the collection and clarification of product and system requirementsIdentify technical risks and contribute to mitigation strategiesPerform cost analysis and support cost-reduction initiativesReview and approve key hardware development milestonesResearch and DesignResearch new technologies relevant to building automation and control product directionsPerform technical analysis of proposed designsCapture designs in schematics and produce PCB layoutsLiaise with mechanical designers to ensure physical and environmental requirements are metDesign with consideration for system power requirements, thermal performance, and component lifecycleEnsure component selection follows established standards and best practicesGenerate accurate documentation for products and variants including addition to and ongoing maintenance in PLMQuality, Testing,



and System IntegrationPerform preliminary product testing and support board bring-upCreate test plans for new hardware designsAssist in the development of quality and verification test proceduresEnsure designs are reviewed by qualified hardware or QA specialistsReview work produced by other hardware designersAnalyze product failures and contribute to root-cause analysisCollaborate with firmware developers during system integration and debuggingFirmware Exposure (Minor)General understanding of embedded firmware concepts and hardware/firmware interfacesAbility to read or make minor modifications to firmware for testing or debuggingCollaborate with firmware teams to define hardware interfaces and requirementsThis role does not require primary firmware development ownershipCompliance & Regulatory ExposureDesign hardware with regulatory and safety requirements in mindSupport certification and compliance testing, primarily UL and CEApply best practices for safety, isolation, creepage/clearance, grounding, EMC, and ESDRequired Skills and AbilitiesStrong understanding of mixed-signal, analog, and digital circuit design, including printed circuit designStrong technical communications and writing skillsStrong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects effectivelyAble to work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervisionProficiency with EDA software (Altium Designer experience preferred)Experience with microcontrollers/microprocessors and peripheral interfacesHands‑on experience debugging hardware in a lab environmentBasic embedded C/C++ familiarityAbility to collaborate across firmware, mechanical, manufacturing, and compliance teamsNice to HaveRegistered as either P.Eng.
