Role Description The Sprinkler Fitter role at UA Local 496 is a full-time, on-site position located in the Greater Calgary Metropolitan Area. Day-to-day responsibilities include installing, assembling, and maintaining fire sprinkler systems in commercial, industrial, and residential settings. The role involves reading and interpreting blueprints, measuring and cutting pipe, and using hand and power tools to install sprinkler heads, valves, and related components.
Sprinkler
Fitters test and inspect systems to ensure proper operation and compliance with life safety codes, standards, and local regulations. The position may also include troubleshooting system issues, performing repairs,
collaborating with other trades on job sites, and following strict safety protocols and union guidelines.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with sprinkler systems, including installation, maintenance, and testing.
- Proficiency working with pipe, including measuring, cutting, threading, and joining using appropriate tools and methods.
- Effective use of hand tools and related equipment commonly used in fire protection and pipefitting work.
- Understanding of life safety standards, building codes, and fire protection regulations relevant to sprinkler systems.
- Completion of a recognized Sprinkler Fitter apprenticeship or equivalent trade certification (or progress toward completion).
- Robust ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and job specifications.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety, including adherence to union, site, and provincial safety requirements.
- Reliable work ethic, ability to work in varying weather and site conditions, and capability to lift, carry, and work at heights as required.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites in the Greater Calgary Metropolitan Area.
