Position Highlights The Protection & Control Engineering Division provides engineering expertise for BC Hydro's protection, control,
automation, SCADA, and operational technology systems that support the safe, reliable, and secure operation of the provincial power system. The division serves as the technical authority for these disciplines and supports the full asset lifecycle, including planning, design, construction, commissioning, sustainment, regulatory compliance, and cybersecurity stewardship.
We have exciting opportunities for P&C; CIP Compliance Engineers who are passionate about protecting critical infrastructure and strengthening the security and reliability of BC Hydro's operational technology setting. P&C;
Compliance Engineers provide technical leadership and expertise in the application of NERC CIP requirements,
cybersecurity controls, risk management, and engineering governance for Protection & Control, SCADA, teleprotection,
automation, and industrial control system assets. Working with Engineering teams and supporting other business areas,
P&C; CIP Compliance Engineers help ensure BC Hydro's critical infrastructure remains secure, resilient, and compliant throughout its lifecycle.

This is an opportunity to lead a highly visible compliance function, influence strategic direction, develop technical talent, and help ensure the reliability, security, and regulatory compliance of BC Hydro's electric system.
What you'll do
- Serve as BC Hydro's technical subject matter expert for transmission station NERC CIP compliance, providing
engineering leadership and guidance on compliance requirements, cybersecurity controls,
and risk management practices applicable to Protection & Control, SCADA, teleprotection, automation, and Industrial Control System assets.
- Lead and support compliance activities affecting transmission station operational technology assets, ensuring NERC CIP
requirements and cybersecurity controls are effectively implemented, sustained, and maintained throughout the asset lifecycle.
- Provide technical leadership and support for audits, self-certifications, evidence reviews, vulnerability assessments,
investigations, root cause analyses, corrective action plans, mitigation plans, and regulatory engagements with WECC and other governing bodies.
- Assess technical, operational, and project changes to identify compliance obligations, cybersecurity risks, implementation
requirements, and potential impacts to regulatory compliance.
- Develop, maintain, and improve engineering standards, technical guidance, procedures, compliance controls, and
supporting documentation that enable effective governance and audit readiness.
- Prepare signed and sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC and BC
Hydro design practices.
- Champion professional engineering practice by supporting compliance with EGBC quality management requirements, BC
Hydro standards, and industry best practices.
- Represent BC Hydro through audits, industry forums, working groups, and technical committees while effectively
communicating complex compliance and technical matters to diverse audiences.
- Mentor and support engineers and technical staff, fostering knowledge sharing, professional development, accountability,
and continuous improvement.
What you bring
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from a recognized university. Preferred areas of study
include power engineering, control systems, telecommunications, computer engineering, systems engineering.
- Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists
BC (EGBC), and proficient with EGBC quality management guidelines, continuing education requirements, and code of ethics.
- A minimum of 8 years of progressive and comprehensive engineering experience in transmission power systems,
industrial control systems, telecommunication networks, cybersecurity, or systems engineering. Candidates with lesser experience may be considered and evaluated for placement at a lower level.
- Strong,
demonstrated experience in NERC CIP compliance and cybersecurity for ICS infrastructure and operational
technology environments.
- Working knowledge of Protection & Control systems, SCADA systems, teleprotection systems, remedial action schemes
(RAS), industrial control networks, PLCs, RTUs, and HMIs, with the ability to interpret CIP requirements and translate them into practical engineering and operational solutions.
- Experience supporting audits, compliance programs, investigations, corrective action initiatives, or governance programs,
including violation investigations, root cause analysis, and mitigation plan development.
- Proficiency with data analytics and scripting tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Excel VBA, Microsoft Access) and OT device
port scanning is desired.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, risk assessment, and technical writing skills, with a good understanding of project and
task management processes.
- Proactive in ongoing professional and personal development, such as self-study, technical and administrative courses,
and participation in technical and professional societies.
- Ability to influence outcomes, build consensus, and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent leadership, written, verbal, and technical communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey
complex technical and regulatory concepts to diverse audiences. What we offer

- This is a hybrid position based at BC Hydro's Edmonds office in Burnaby, BC, with a minimum in-office requirement of
three days per week.
- Occasional travel within British Columbia is required. A valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence in good standing is a condition of
employment.
