Maintenance Person II / Cape Breton DistrictLocation: Sydney, Cape Breton IslandType of Employment: Full Time, PermanentUnion Status: CUPE Local 4840Competition #: CB 25033Closing Date: November 18, 2025The Prospect: Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Person 2 is responsible for ensuring the efficient turnaround time on vacant units and carrying out material and equipment installations, renovations, repairs, and servicing in the following areas—carpentry, plumbing, heating, electrical, painting and ventilation—on properties under the jurisdiction of Cape Breton District.ResponsibilitiesCarry out material and equipment installations, renovations, repairs and servicing in carpentry, plumbing, heating, basic electrical, painting and ventilation.Carry out assessment and preventative maintenance to all assigned buildings, appliances, fixtures, utilities and equipment in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures.Maintain properties under the jurisdiction of the Cape Breton District, including walks, driveways and parking areas, drainage systems, curbs and gutters, swales, culverts, manholes, catch basins, etc.Prepare and complete documentation such as work orders, vehicle reports, maintenance logs, inspection reports and inventory records.Repair vacant units to make them rent‑ready.Operate motor vehicles, motorized equipment and power tools used in the trade.QualificationsMust have Grade 12 or equivalent,



plus five years' experience in building and property maintenance or a related field.Must be able to perform basic tasks in carpentry, plumbing, heating, electrical, painting and drywall.Ability to operate electrical and mechanical tools and equipment.Ability to perform physical tasks using good body mechanics.Knowledge of residential building technology, basic knowledge of National Building Code and Occupational Health and Safety Act.Nice to have: Emergency First Aid and WHMIS certifications.Knowledge of computer systems is beneficial.Must hold a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
