At NYCH, we pride ourselves on working collaboratively and creating a supportive environment.Position Summary:The Summer Assistant will provide planning and program support for the Newcomer Youth Programs during July and August.Major Duties and Responsibilities:Planning & Program DeliveryAssist in the planning and implementation of culturally appropriate activities that promote the social, physical, and intellectual development of immigrant youth aged 14‑19Provide support to NYCH Workers, program participants,
and volunteersAssist in developing and supporting the facilitation of online summer youth programmingSupport in supervising participants during field trips and community outings to ensure safety and positive participationSupport during outdoor sports and recreational activities, ensuring participant safety, engagement, inclusion, and adherence to program guidelinesSupport with program outreach, communicate with participants and engage using social media toolsParticipate in youth network meetings to help address the barriers youth are facingWork with youth, agency staff, and community partners to implement online and in‑person workshops and eventsFlexibility to work with multiple supervisors and different summer programsParticipate in NYCH training and team meetings as requiredAdditional support and duties as requiredDocumentation and reportingRecord and submit program attendance, volunteer hours, registration, and other reports as requiredProduce reports summarizing activities and statistics at the end of each sessionSubmit Canada Summer Jobs staff attendance forms regularly and on timePosition Requirements:EducationPursuing post-secondary (college, technical institute, university) education in social services,
physical education or educationExperience and SkillsLived experience and/or experience working with newcomer youthsPrevious experience facilitating and co‑facilitating workshops in‑person and hybrid, and the willingness to learnKnowledge and experience with online tools, including social media (e.G., Zoom, Google Docs, Facebook Live, Instagram Live, TikTok, Discord, etc.)Highly creative, positive attitude, and ability to work well in a team environmentResponsible, dependable, and punctual, with timely communication with staff/supervisorAssetsPrevious experience participating in or volunteering with NYCH programs and eventsOral and written communication skills in another language(s), including TagalogExperience leading or teaching engaging youth activities such as arts‑based and creative programmingFirst aid/CPR trainingOther RequirementsNYCH supports the process of getting updated police reference checks upon employmentAccess to quality Wi‑Fi, phone, laptop, or computer with camera and soundRegular hours are typically from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm; some evening and weekend work is required.NYCH is committed to equity and creating a respectful and inclusive workplace culture that reflects the broad diversity of communities we work with.
