Position Title: STEM Explore Workshop Facilitator (BC)

Employment Location: Remote & In-School (must be located within the Greater Vancouver Area due to regular travel to schools expected as part of duties)

Employment Type: Part-time, approximately 15–21 hours per week.

Employment Duration: Position expected to end on/around July 2027 (Depending on grant funding, individual performance and other employment opportunities, there may be options to continue employment with SCWIST, but this is not guaranteed.)

About the STEM Explore Program

SCWIST's STEM Explore Program provides hands-on STEM learning opportunities for elementary school students. Through interactive classroom workshops, students explore STEM concepts through engaging activities designed to encourage curiosity, experimentation, problem-solving and confidence in STEM.

Workshop Facilitators play an integral role in bringing these experiences directly into classrooms and creating welcoming learning environments where students can participate, ask questions and explore STEM.

Position Overview The Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology (SCWIST) is seeking a STEM Explore Workshop Facilitator to support the delivery of engaging, hands-on STEM workshops for elementary school students in the Greater Vancouver Area.

Working with the STEM Explore Coordinator, the Workshop Facilitator will visit schools to deliver STEM Explore workshops using lesson materials, presentations and activity kits provided by SCWIST.

The successful candidate should have a background in science or another STEM discipline, enjoy working with children and is comfortable presenting scientific concepts in an engaging and age-appropriate way. This position requires regular travel to schools throughout the Greater Vancouver Area.

Key Responsibilities

- Facilitate in-person STEM Explore workshops in elementary school classrooms throughout the Greater Vancouver Area.
- Deliver workshop content using SCWIST-provided lesson plans, presentations, activity materials and facilitation guidelines.
- Explain STEM concepts in clear, engaging and age-appropriate ways for students with different levels of knowledge and experience.




- Facilitate hands-on STEM activities while maintaining a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Prepare for workshops by reviewing workshop materials, presentations, activities and facilitation instructions in advance.
- Coordinate with the STEM Explore Coordinator regarding workshop schedules, classroom requirements, materials and other delivery details.
- Communicate professionally with teachers, school staff, STEM Expert Volunteers, SCWIST staff and other program participants as required.
- Work collaboratively with STEM Expert Volunteers and other facilitators supporting classroom workshops.
- Assist with preparing, organizing, transporting, setting up and packing workshop materials and activity kits as required.
- Follow SCWIST procedures related to classroom safety, student engagement, accessibility and program delivery.
- Observe student and teacher engagement during workshops and share relevant feedback with the STEM Explore Coordinator.
- Suggest improvements to workshop content, activities or facilitation approaches based on classroom experience and the needs of students.
- Maintain accurate workshop-related records and submit required information or feedback following workshop delivery.
- Participate in training, orientation and SCWIST meetings as required.
- Represent SCWIST professionally and contribute to an inclusive environment that encourages students from diverse backgrounds to explore STEM.
- Support other SCWIST activities as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience
- Experience: Minimum 3+ years of experience teaching, tutoring, facilitating workshops, working with youth or delivering educational programming is strongly preferred.
- Education: Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree or higher in a STEM discipline.
- Language: Must be professionally fluent in English (for speaking, writing, listening and reading)
- Location: Must live in the Greater Vancouver Area and be able to travel to participating schools for in-person classroom workshops.
- Strong understanding of fundamental STEM concepts and an ability to communicate scientific information clearly to elementary-aged students.
- Comfortable speaking and presenting in front of groups of students and teachers.
- Ability to adapt explanations and activities to different age groups, classroom environments and learning needs.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Reliable,



organized and able to manage workshop schedules and preparation requirements independently.
- Ability to follow established workshop plans while responding appropriately to classroom needs.

- Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and creating welcoming STEM learning environments.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, volunteers, facilitators and SCWIST staff.
- Comfortable handling and transporting workshop materials and equipment as required.

- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada for any employer.

Other Details

- Location: Remote and In-school (Candidates must reside in the Greater Vancouver Area and have reliable transportation to access the schools we partner with).
- Schedule: Workshop schedule varies based on school bookings and program needs.

- Travel: Regular local travel to participating schools is required. Cost of travel will be reimbursed by SCWIST.
- Salary Range: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour, based on experience.
