Reporting to the Senior Planning Manager, the Planning Manager is responsible for leading project planning and scheduling activities, analyzing project performance and financial information, supporting project execution, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to define priorities, develop schedules, and ensure successful project delivery. Key partner to Project Managers, Project Directors, and Construction Teams. Plan project management activities, including setting deadlines, prioritizing tasks, and assigning team members to various deliverables.

Collaborate with other project teams to define, prioritize, and develop project schedules. Identify the main critical path along with sub-critical paths and perform regular critical path analyses. Maintain a solid understanding of the overall WBS program to ensure compliance with alliance procedures and processes developed to monitor project schedules, project performance, and project reporting.

Demonstrate a strong understanding of Earned Value techniques and their application through the various phases of the project, including Engineering, Procurement, Execution, Commissioning, and Closeout. Reconcile WBS/CBS and OBS coding structures. Conduct detailed review and analysis of project performance and reporting to explain key metrics, with a focus on SPI indicators, key commodity tracking, and related measures.

Provide variance narratives and propose workaround options to the project leadership team.

Develop Schedule Impact

Analyses when changes are identified, update current schedules, and perform rebaselining when required. Maintain detailed baseline or schedule change logs to ensure the integrity of the performance measurement baseline.

Align





Aecon expectations with the program alliance to successfully incorporate progress data into alliance reporting and decision‑making models. Perform schedule quality analysis using Acumen Fuse metrics. Perform schedule risk analysis through the QSRA approach.

Review and evaluate trends and their impact on project schedules. Identify fragnets where possible throughout the project lifecycle, across different phases, and transition them to future units or similar scopes when required. Perform regular field tours to check work progress and meet with project site personnel.

Participate in company‑wide initiatives aimed at continuous improvement. Help evaluate and document processes and procedures to be followed by project teams. Provide functional guidance to all project controls personnel on the project.

Work with Project Management to assist in staffing the planning function for a project. Provide support, guidance, and training for schedulers. Conduct employee performance reviews. Post-secondary education in engineering or a related field is preferred. ~ Experience on an EPC project is an asset. ~ Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
